We'll see how other boards like having "appreciation threads"! I've been watching a lot of JCP/NWA on the Network lately. And in particular I'm watching older Clash of Champions. Since I was a kid I've always been a huge fan of Barry Windham's Horsemen run. But after rewatching it as an adult, I can say he was just so smooth. Just watched his match with Sting and him teaming with Flair to face the Midnight Express. Barry was only 27 at this time, and he moved like a guy who had been in the business for 20 years. He was a natural. Oh yeah, since all "appreciation threads" need a seductive pic... Don't stare too long.

I definitely respected his work. I will go back and watch it for sure. Because I didn't grow up in that era of wrestling (grew up in the Monday night wars), I just kind of viewed him as an athletic guy that was talented in the ring, but not necessarily on the microphone.

He belongs in the class with Piper, Perfect, DiBiase, etc.
One of the GREATEST of all time and he never gets the recognition that he deserves. EVER.

In a strange ironic unintentional coincidence, I just happened to start this thread on Barry's birthday. So yeah... go me.
Also, Barry Windham vs Brad Armstrong is another great match.

I want to cry with joy right now because of this thread!!!
Barry Windham was ready to be NWA World Champion in 1988, so what did Flair do?? Had Luger go face and had Barry join the Horsemen. Flair knew that Luger was too green to win the NWA World Title yet, and having Barry in the Horsemen meant Barry wasn't gonna be going after the NWA World Title any time soon.
The heel turn by Barry on Lex, costing them the NWA World Tag Titles to Arn and Tully, was the biggest heel turn ever in the history of NWA/WCW. That is of course until 1996 when Hulk Hogan turned and went with the NWO.
Barry had a little group in late 1992 and early 1993 consisting of Brian Pillman, Steve Austin and himself. The trio went after the WCW/NWA World Tag Titles that Shane Douglas and Ricky Steamboat held, and Barry finally left the tag team ranks and allowed Austin and Pillman to do their thing, as Barry Windham went on to win the NWA World Title from the Great Muta at SuperBrawl III.
Of course the magic of him winning the NWA Title was taken away with the return of Ric Flair. Sadly Barry's only World Title reign doesn't get the respect it deserves mainly because during the entire time the were still setting up for Flair to win it from Barry. Barry was pretty much the place holder sadly.
But Barry Windham will always be a favourite of mine. I made a two disc DVD set called "Barry Windham: The NWA Title Is My Destiny" and I put everything from late 1992 through to mid 1993 of Barry matches from WCW Saturday Night, World Wide Wrestling, Clash of the Champions and PPVs.

You STALKER!...Just like Barry. I was so happy when he beat the Great Muta at Super Brawl III. I had felt he deserved to be the NWA champion.

I loved the Barry/Flair Broadway from the Flair DVD. I was really hoping he was going to be at Wrestle Con in Dallas, but apparently he wasn't booked. On the plus side, he is already booked for Orlando.

Pretty sure around the time that Flair left for WWF he wanted to drop the title to Barry or thought that Barry was the guy that should be getting it but the bookers went with someone else? I remember Flair talking about it on one of the WWE DVDs. I don't think Flair ever sabotaged Barry. He talks about Barry being stiffed all the time.

I remember Flair talking about it on one of the WWE DVDs. I don't think Flair ever sabotaged Barry. He talks about Barry being stiffed all the time. The Flair thing about dropping the belt to Barry in 1991 is a huge lie. Great American Bash was set up to have Lex Luger vs. Ric Flair for the WCW World Title in a cage, and Arn Anderson & Barry Windham vs. the Steiners for the Tag Titles in a steel cage. Flair left, so Barry took the spot against Lex. Lex still won the vacant WCW World Title. Scott Steiner got injured, so that match became Paul E. Dangerously and Arn Anderson vs. Rick Steiner and Missy Hyatt in a steel cage. So no way was Flair ever dropping the belt to Barry then. Barry was still in the Horsemen with Ric and Arn. Sid had just left for WWE. So I don't believe a single word Ric says about that.

Arn was one of the best ever but he was never World Champion material in my honest opinion. I feel like Arn was always where he should be, unless we're talking about the 90's where Arn was used in a very bad manner...

He could work, and talk. Plus fans loved Arn because they knew he was going to kick some ass.

I don't think I could put Arn in the top five even when it comes to late 80's NWA champion possibilities.

I still think Anderson/Windham vs Doom (Starrcade 90) in the street fight, was one of the best tag matches ever. For those that have not seen it, it goes in my recommendation list.

Phenomenal matches from that era but the booking was shot.
