random thread just to lighten things up a bit . Anyone got any funny or odd stories about their LJN collections? Or any? I specify LJN because I had an odd experience years ago... I started collecting LJNs when I was about 10. So you're talking close to 15 years back. I started off with the managers. I remember finding most of my LJNs at a flea market. Miss Elizabeth was a little harder to come by for me. One day my mom managed to find one on the bay for $15. It didn't include the skirt though. I was just wanting it either way. It didn't really matter to me if she had the skirt or not. Back then everything was by money order so it seemed like ages before Liz was shipped. Well a week later, we got a letter in the mail. My mom opened it to find a little gold skirt. We were really shocked at first to recieve just the skirt. I was crushed lol. However a note included explained that the seller had found the skirt and shipped it separately. He felt bad for losing it and wanted to send it off before he lost it again. It took another 3 or 4 days before Liz finally arrived. I was relieved since I was paranoid she wouldn't come. Coincidentally, I still have Liz (the only LJN I have left after collecting everyone except Warrior, Bam Bam and Haku!) but I have too lost the skirt lol. I honestly was never a fan of the gold skirt version. Being very fashion conscious, I found the purple to fit better. But I'd sure like to have it again haha. I currently have all 3 Liz figures without her clothes lmao

Nothing really funny, but I have tons of memories of playing with them as a kid, finding various figures at garage sales, perusing the toy store aisles looking for certain ones and always seeing the same boring ones, etc. Bruno, SD Jones, some managers, and the referee seemed to drive me crazy as a kid!

The first four years I collected them (at this point could only buy in flea markets), I would find the "same boring ones" too. Those were usually the first three series with a few series four here and there. No Harts, Bees, 1988 or 89 toys. By late 1997-1998 there were a few local (30 minutes to an hour away) stores that sold LJN. My grandmother wound up finding most of the 1988 ones at Value Village, now you can't find any toys of "value" there.

Back in the day, my backyard neighbor also collected and we'd always hop the fence to play w/our LJNs. He had a couple of the newer ones (series 4 at the time) and I had some of the older ones that were tougher to find later on. We'd trade, borrow, etc., made silly putty masks for the Killer Bees so the ref couldn't tell who was who

A buddy sent me a Johnny V MOC that he happened to stumble across somewhere, and I hadn't seen an LJN since I collected them as a kid almost 30 years ago. So I Googled WWF LJN and discovered the black card series which I didn't know had existed since I'd stopped collecting them by that point. So that got me interested in starting an MOC collection and after a couple years, a ton of research and a lot of money spent, I got them all MOC including the variants (except for a couple like black chain JYD).

It is one of my more memorable story. I'm from New York and my friend took a summer weekend trip to somewhere in Jersey forgot where, but we were at the local arcade and I remember see the LJN Ax figure as one of the prizes. Lets just say I made my dad and grandpa spend more than it was really worth and played a bolt load of skeeball to earn the right amount of tickets. Now I remember it wasn't a crazy number but it is safe to say I wasn't getting it for 30-40 tickets now.

As a kid 30 years ago, I would always stay at a friend's house after school for a couple hours until mom would get out of work. We had a bunch of LJNs. He had Hogan and Studd, among others. The paint started chipping off, so we decided to speed up the process. One of us started scratching the paint off Hogan's crotch. The other one scratched the paint off Studd's butt. The next day at school, all we could do was wait to get home and scratch off more from those areas. We must have been 7 or 8. I remember the 2 of us rushing to his house after school to scratch the paint off those figs. What weird kids.

My funny story is selling all my LJNs together in one lot for $80 when I was 18 years old back in 1999.
Then to find out years later that guys like the Ultimate Warrior, and white shirt Hulk Hogan went for big money used and played with, and that they were in the lot of LJNs that I sold.
That kind of sucked.

That kind of sucked. I feel ya. I did that with my G1 Transformers and original TMNT lines. I had a ton of each, vehicles, playsets, you name it, and gave them up for nothing in comparison to their value. Even at the time they were screaming steals, but I was young and there was no internet. I didn't give up any wrestling figures though, those were always my #1.

When I was a kid, my Mom couldn't find an Andre the Giant to save her life. So she bought me a Bruno, ditched the plastic & poster, & told me it was Andre. As a kid, I didn't know any better. But I was pissed once I figured it out years later.

I remember vividly going into surgery for a hernia as a kid (I was like 4 or 5) and requesting that they put the rails all the way up (which were aluminum bars) so I can have a cage match with my Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage figures that I brought along to comfort me lol.

All that In know is that every time I go to an antique mall, a thrift store, or a garage sale I look for them, but I never see them. I'm about 15 years too late for that market clearly. You'd think someone would toss some out in a garage sale, but never. I haven't seen one at a garage sale in maybe 20 years.

HHH316.. Omg that hilarious! I had a similar thing happen to me but with Masked Rider action figures. Haha Mike...sound like an epic cage match battle in the surgery ward haha! Bill...that's weird! I see LJNs quite often at flea markets and garage sales. I actually traded my entire LJN collection at a flea market. I had a decent set too. Kamala, both white and blue shirt refs, all the managers...the guy (who I'm friends with) offered $150 worth of merchandise to trade. I managed to talk him up to $180 I think. Some say it was a lowball but hey I understand that he has to make money too. Funny thing is, while I was picking out my trade merch a guy comes in and goes "hey dude! I heard you were getting some LJNs in today!" And I replied "he did. They were mine." Lol

But I was pissed once I figured it out years later. Funny! My grandmother did that with a Ghostbusters Egon. I buried the original one in a park playground sandbox, cried all the way home because I couldn't remember where. She came up with the story she went back to look for it, found it and even had sand on it. She had gone to the store bought a new one and claim it was the original. As for another post, being 15 years too late. It seems so in my area too. For the early 90s, you ALWAYS saw LJNs around the local yard sales, thrift stores and mom & pop country stores going on road trips. Only bad part for a set collector was it was always the same guys, mostly first three series guys.

What i remember the most is seeing figures over the years at flea markets and the sellers wouldn't know the names,so they just made up names to put on the tags..Nikolai was "the Mad Russian",Hillbilly Jim was "Farmer John",Brutus was "Pretty Boy Floyd",Superfly was "HeMan",...The typical Jesse Ventura is Hulk Hogan...among countless others that I can't remember.

I still see LJNs at flea markets, but almost always they're at toy booths or are the common figures of common figures at dumb prices.
I can recall many garage sales in the 80s/90s, finding near mint LJNs for 50 cents, $1, etc. One weekend vacation in NY I got the Bulldogs, Blassie, Fuji, and a couple others (why I can't remember them, I don't know) for 50 cents each. All had accessories and were near mint. I wonder who else I left in the box...And of course that's just one story off the top of my head from when I was about 8 years old.
On a related note, I can remember around 2001 when my mother & grandma were out hitting up some garage sales. They called me at work to let me know they found some wrestlers and as luck had it I picked up 2 or 3 green card Hasbros for $1-2 each. Can't remember exactly, but it was the Gunns and one other. All mint, too!
Glory days, guys, they don't seem to happen like that anymore.

I still find a box of LJNs at a flea market/farmer's market that I frequent. Trouble is, its always Volkoff, Sheik, Muraco & Snuka. And they are in terrible condition.

I could probably fill a storage box full of Studds, Hogans and Savages I've seen at garage sales. Oddly enough, I've never seen a Snuka in my life lol. Not even at flea markets.

We all remember the 2 page spread in PWI "LAST CHANCE" with every ljn pictured right? Well for my 10th bday my mom ordered me Red shirt hulk and ultimate warrior (Cmon it was summer 1990 wm6 just happend 4 months earlier) and we all remember checking the front porch every...single ...day ...for weeks...and...weeks ...and...weeks (loved the days of no internet trackable packages) well after waiting the 3 years for my package to arrive (8 weeks =3years to 10 year olds) low and behold my...Jake Roberts and Haku showed up....WTF!!!!! (YEP I really said that in front of my mother) so after 48 hours of nonstop crying and 52 phone calls it is established to send the package back and the mistake will be corrected...so another 4 years go bye (ten weeks) and my mom hands me a catolog sized envelop from "the wrestling ring' saying we are sorry but both your items are perminently out of stock please look thru our catolog for an instock replacement ....I ended up with what I'll call 'the best of the rest' Strike Force.
