The winning numbers are out in Canada's richest Lotto 6/49 prize ever. They are 3, 21, 25, 26, 31 and 40. The bonus number is 41.
All day long on Saturday, millions of Canadians hoped their numbers would come up. Some even gave reasons why they should be chosen to beat the 14 million-to-one odds and win the estimated $30 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot -- the largest prize ever for that game, but only the third-largest in Canadian lottery history.
"I'm the best person to win $30 million because all my friends and family would be extremely happy," said one Toronto woman.
"I'll help all my family out," said another. "I have five brothers and five sisters. Thirty-two nephews."
A Kitchener man said he'd certainly take care of his family, "and probably call my boss today and tell him I might not be coming in Monday."
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. surveyed winners of $1 million or more in early 2004 and found that about three-quarters of them did share the loot with family and friends.
Here's some other things they learned:
89 per cent put the money in the bank
35 per cent took a vacation
35 per cent bought a new car
30 per cent gave to charity
Seven per cent bought a boat
While millions play the lottery weekly, officials say a huge prize like today's attracts new players.
"We walked past it, saw the camera, took a peek. It was $30 million so we decided to play," an Ottawa couple said.
Nationally, lottery retail centres stayed busy all day.
"The busiest Saturday," said Ottawa ticket seller Tagrit Kheirallah. "Next week, Wednesday, will be $32 million. If it's not won, it's $40 million. Everybody will be here."
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp.'s Don Pister had this caution for ticket-buyers: "The other thing we do like to remind people is, the odds are one in 14 million. Please enjoy the game but play responsibly and only spend what you can afford."

According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission website, no one had won the $30,000,000 grand prize last night.
I know I certainly didn't win.
