Their idea is that Raw needs a world champion. Well, that's debatable, especially since they recently brought the 2 world titles together, just to split them up again, knowing that one day they'll likely merge them again? It's just too much, and unnecessary. I think they should have the WWE Champion float between the brands like the Undisputed WWE Title originally did in 2002. But if they insist on having a world champion on Raw, instead of making a Universal Title, which sounds ridiculous, I propose an alternate solution...
In the original ECW days, specifically when Taz held the ECW World Television Championship, he made it a point to make everyone believe that his TV Title meant way more than Shane Douglas' World Title. And during that run, he had a very good point because due to Douglas' injury, he wasn't defending his title regularly, and Taz was in main events defending his TV Title. Then RVD went on to hold the title for as long as he did until he got injured and couldn't. So my point is, a world title is a world title, so instead of coming up with a ridiculous replacement of a World Heavyweight Title, why not create the first WWE World Television Championship? They could do just like what WCW did and promote it as a title that's always defended on TV (even though it wasn't, and doesn't have to be), but ECW even went as far to describe that title as being the best wrestler on TV. Raw could definitely do that, introduce a title with a familiar name with a storied past, makes sense, and could give them their world champion they feel they so desperately need on Raw.
Thoughts?

In my opinion its not going to matter what its called. Yes, SmackDown getting the WWE title is a bonus as it adds prestige to the brand. However, it will all come down to the booking of each show, superstars holding and challenging for the belts and the ordering of matches at big four PPV's that determines which one is actually more important.
To me, calling it the WWE world "television" championship seems outdated.

That doesn't exactly strike me as being the top tier championship on Raw.

The name has started growing on me. I hated it at first but eventually the Universal Championship will sound as common place as the Intercontinental or European.

I like because it still feels like WWE only has 1 world title. Also if the split ever ends it could still be used as a upper card title for other main eventers.

I was calling this for months that the new title on whatever brand didn't get the WWE Title should be called the Universal Title.Longer term we know the brand split will end at somepoint but hopefully they don't merge this new title with the WWE.It should become basically this new era's IC Title in terms of being the main secondary title and a title that is book properly and is a title that means something and has a ton of credibility which the real IC and US Title have lost over the years.
WWE Title Universal Title IC Title Cruiserweight Title WWE Tag Team Titles Women's Title
Should be the title line up years down the road after the brand split ends.If need be the IC Title could be gone as well again with the Universal Title taking over that role.

I literally wanted to open this thread after reading that title and just read 'They don't.'
Like seriously, the name is so intellectually- disabled.

There was a time that I loved the TV title. But it just sounds generic this day and age.
