Dragon Age 2. Most of the problems people had were the change in the combat system and the scaled-down feel. I really liked those things. While I preferred the way combat was handled in Origins and Inquisition (which was a combo of Origins and 2), I liked the animation of the characters while they were in action, especially the magic-users.
As far as the scaled-down aspect, sure the fate of the world wasn't at stake, but does it have to be in every game? I like that this was centered mainly around one city, though it did make for a good deal of repetitiveness. I also liked the time jumps and the relationships between the characters, and the way it naturally led to Inquisition. Certainly not a perfect game, but not worthy of the hate I remember it getting in the months after it was released.

JAWS Unleashed.
Sharks are my favorite things, hands down, like 10 steps ahead of anything else on earth and in life. So this was basically the game I have been waiting for since I was 3. I liked how it loosely continued the movie stories and that was it so it worked well all around for me, even though I don't care much about the narrative in most video games. For a lot of people I guess the 'story' experience wasn't good enough but for me it was a shark simulator on drugs which is basically all I could have possibly ever asked for.

Many people in my age range (I'm 32), don't like Skylanders. I've played them all, but I like Sypro's Adventure, Trap Team, and Imaginators. I know that TTL gets a bad rap (because Activision likes money), but I like the art style and the names of the characters.
I prolly wouldn't ever think to get the game, but I was looking for something that was aimed for children considering I have 2 young ones... I walked into TRU one day and Spyro's Adventure was on clearance for $10. Lol, after that I was hooked.

I've never seen a lot of praise for Luigis Mansion and I really loved that game. Needed help from the strategy guide but I beat it. Pretty sure I caught every Boo as well.

Soooooooo frustrating at almost every turn with the gameplay, but I absolutely LOVED the Mos Espa level. I pumped so many hours into that level just screwing around. I remember going on rampages and killing anything I could. I think someone randomly yells at you "YOU'RE NOOOO JEDIIII!" when you start attacking them lol.

Saints Row IV? I know a lot of people hated it because it was just The Third with another coat of paint and super powers. But that was really kinda all I ever wanted it to be? Though, I can kinda see why people hated it. But crap, Roddy Piper is in it, how can you not love that?

Assassins Creed 3. Loved it. A lot of people claim that the main character Connor is boring or he has no character but that is utter bollocks. He was an amazing character and I loved his story. It's actually my favorite assassins creed game. Totally agree on Connor. I think a major problem is, it followed up the Ezio trilogy. You go from Ezio with his charm and charisma, the ladies man, and you follow it up with Connor, who is more somber, and not the witty type. Considering his story, the way he's portrayed makes sense. He's half Native American and half white. He's part of two separate societies and not 100 % accepted by either one. He's grown up not knowing his father, and watches his mother die in front of him, and then when he finally realizes who his father is, he finds out he's the enemy. It just wouldn't have made sense to have him cracking jokes, smooth talking everyone, and hitting on the ladies. Saints Row IV? I know a lot of people hated it because it was just The Third with another coat of paint and super powers. But that was really kinda all I ever wanted it to be? Though, I can kinda see why people hated it. But crap, Roddy Piper is in it, how can you not love that? The thing I always found funny with Saints Row, is when it started getting crazier with each installment, you'd have people start to complain, it needed to be more realistic, more like the vein of Grand Theft Auto, yet when the first one came out, people complained it was too much like GTA. I do hope though, if they end up making another one, they go back to the Saints as a gang again, but still with a lot of that over the top. With a few of the choices you get at the end of Gat Outta Hell they could easily make a continuation, but still going back a bit, without it being an actual reboot. I remember in four getting a good laugh, when you unlock Piper's outfit early in the game, and thought, that's pretty cool, giving a nod to Hot Rod. Then came the mission, where not only do you have him in the game, but also have the nod to They Live. His interactions with you and other homies after you unlock him are hilarious. I like how they also had him as the narrator for the mission where you save Johnny Gat.

I mean, in The Third, the "Trojan Wh*res" mission had me in stitches when Pierce goes "Whoa sh*t! These hoes ain't hoes!" Like, I legit had to pause the game because I was laughing so hard. Then add the giant heh bat and all the wrestling moves, it's just such a relaxed experience, it's just how I like my games.

I mean she was pretty much a totally different character from 2 to 3. I get they didn't have Eliza Dushku to do her voice again, but they shouldn't have resulted in such a drastic change to the character. Was glad when they had 'Fun Shanudi' in 4, as part of the simulation.

World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor. The vast majority of players hated it, so much to the point that WoW's subscriber count fell to an all-time low, and fell so far that Blizzard chose to stop posting a quarterly subscription report. I absolutely loved the setting, though many people weren't fond of it. Orcs are definitely one of my favourite parts of the Warcraft franchise. I love all the icons of Orc lore like Blackhand, Gul'dan, Kilrogg, etc, but most especially the return of one of the greatest characters of all time, Grom Hellscream! Frostfire Ridge is definitely my all-time favourite leveling zone. All of the zones were great in the leveling process. Of course, I can't deny that it was lackluster by the end. Blizzard couldn't be bothered developing any content, leaving players with only two major patches during the whole expansion (although only one had proper content), nothing new for 18 months or so. It was great to begin with, but although it was definitely one of the worst expansions, I don't think it was as much of an abomination that most players think of it as. I'll definitely always hate Cataclysm far more than any other expansion.
I'm not so sure if it's really hated by many, but I think Mafia 3 was an excellent game, and undeserving of the negative criticism it received. I liked that it was repetitive, because I wouldn't have expected to be doing anything else. It's a Mafia game, of course you'd spend the whole time shooting! Why would you need to be going off playing pool or any other pointless open world feature? Most people just expected it to be another GTA, but it never made sense why anyone would think that. The combat system was solid. It had an epic film adaptation-worthy story too.

The combat system was solid. It had an epic film adaptation-worthy story too. That's the funny thing with some gamers. You'll have an open world crime game get announced, and if it looks like it shares too many similarities to GTA, they'll complain that it's just another wannabe GTA. Then if it comes out, and only has basic mechanics similar to GTA, those same people will complain and say it needs to be more like GTA. I would say a good example would be a game already mentioned, Saints Row. The first was called a GTA clone, they moved away from that, moving towards the more wacky, and when they did, people complained it needed to go back to the original, you know, the one they cried was a GTA clone. As for Mafia 3, I agree, it's a great game, and the story is a great revenge story, and really comes off like a movie.
