Evening. I've never customized a figure before but I was looking at my HOF Yoko today and thought it would look better with his red attire instead of white, so I'm wondering the best way to go about doing that. paint pens? regular ole paint? some other form of painting I've yet to discover? Crayons? Probably not crayons, but whatever ya'll have in mind that works for a shmo like me feel free to pass along the info.

Definitely just use paint and a decent brush. You can get the materials you need for cheap at a local Wal-Mart. You''re in luck since I think that Yoko is in white? The red paint will apply a bit easier with that as the base color underneath.
For a brush, try and get the gold nylon type you'll see at Wal-Mart/Michaels (google them to see what they look like). I think I got a pack a few weeks ago that had numerous suitable sizes for under $5. And then you can get whatever red paints they have available for about a $1.
I personally prefer the more pricey paints, but you can still get good results from the cheap stuff if you take the time to practice. Thin your paints with water, keep your brush damp, don't glob paint onto the brush or figure, let areas dry sufficiently before doing multiple coats, etc.
Feel free to message me if you need any other help. Good luck with the project!

The best and easiest way would be buy his Elite 15(?) figure and do a head swap.

Well, since it's mostly white, I guess you could take it apart and dye it? I've never done it myself and I dunno if that'll taint the flesh paint on the ankles, but it might look more natural than paint, it might rub off on other figures easier though. I've been meaning to do some black shorts versions for a long time.

Don't listen to PJ...
😏
That's a rather expensive head swap. Just paint it and be done with it.

Don't wanna recommend getting an airbrush unless you're gonna do a lot of painting but I took the plunge a few months ago and it's life changing. So much quicker and no brush strokes. I use much less paint too. A few drops goes a long way.

I still need to make a small investment into it someday. Just to add it to my skill set.

In my opinion taping off spots to airbrush is way easier than keeping paint brush lines clean. And to me it's much simpler to clean and airbrush than a paint brush. Also, just a heads up, the other day on Amazon I found a set of 6 airbrushes for $90. It was $270 off. Haven't gotten them yet so not too sure on the quality. But you can also get the whole starter kit with the compressor for like $150.

Please share any pics you may have of the work you've done using a air brush. Feel free to send them to me via private message so we don't derail the thread too much. I nearly bought a cheap basic set a few months back, but couldn't justify the purchase at the time after just stocking up on paints/brushes again.

If you go to the other figures board and check the Walking Dead figure thread there's a couple I did toward the last couple pages. I have some stuff I'm working on but not done yet. I accidentally dropped my compressor and broke the hose the other day so I'm just waiting for a new hose to come in.
