I recently acquired one of my holy grail figures (Legends 5 Macho Man) Mint on Card. As soon as I opened the box it was shipped in, it hit me. Huge whiff of old cigarettes. I planned on keeping this one in box, but there is no way I can with the way it smells. But I'm worried that when I open it the figure and the shirt are going to reek too.
Do you guys have any suggestions for how to get the smell out of it if it does stink once I open it?

You weren't informed it was coming from a smoke-filled home? Seems like they should've made that known to you.

I don't smoke so I have no idea, but what about just keeping it outside in some fresh air for a week or two? Do you have a place where you can do that without it getting wet?

Yeah, I always see little disclaimers on eBay listings for figures coming from smoke-free homes. I never really gave it much thought as a big issue, but then again I usually buy loose figures that I wash up anyhow.
It's a long shot, but try tossing a bunch of fabric softener sheets into a pillow case, and bundle the figure up in that for a bit. I'm just throwing darts in the dark here though.

Another idea is to put it in a sealed container with some baking soda.
Baking soda eats odors.

Not a bad idea, bad news is that I am allergic to dryer sheets though haha

Just leave it outside in the sunshine. If it looks like rain, bring it inside. Sunshine does wonders for odors. Weird but true.

I got rid of the stench on my Jakks Al Snow by putting it in a bag of soap and water for a few days. It doesn't stink anymore.

If it means that much to you - I hate that shirt and will trade you mine.

Maybe you should put it in a bag of rice.
Just kidding, but the exact same thing happened to me with an RSC ECW Punk. I was very disappointed.

Any time I get figures that smell like smoke, I request a refund, or I open a case with eBay. Most of the time, the sellers agree to a refund. The other times eBay has sided in my favor.

Got some awesome suggestions here. I'm gonna leave Mach in the garage until Friday to let it air out. If he still reeks I'll try the baking soda route.

I'm not a smoker but if you keep it say I'm your garage, wouldn't the smell gradually go away?
