G'day WWE Board. I was talking with my brother about current day WWE (of which we are as up to date as we can be, but not right across the board) - though my brother asked me about the former Uhaa Nation, and what he was doing now. I blanked, and Googled him, finding out he made his debut on the main roster over a year ago now. In that time, I recall him winning a Battle Royal, challenging for the IC title, feuding with Sheamus, The Social Outcasts (remember them?) and The Miz before aligning with Kalisto against Ziggler. Other than that - complete blank...which is a shame, 'cos he's very talented. My brother conceded that perhaps he's a guy who is just happy to be there and not do something or bring something out in himself that could get him more notoriety, hence why it seems he's 'floundering'. Another good point he brought up was that Crews' schtick isn't resonating with fans for whatever reason...my question to you guys is then: - What are your thoughts on him? - Do you think he's 'just happy to be there'? - What realistically could he bring to the table in WWE? - Any other comments about the bloke. For me personally, I followed him on certain indies, thought he was good in NXT but now...poor guy is spinning his wheels IMO. What do you guys reckon?

I will say that his music is awesome but his lack of character makes him uninteresting.

He could've done with another year or two in NXT to develop a personality, but maybe he just doesn't have "it" in the first place. As it is, it's easy to see why the writers and decision-makers have lost interest in him. Shame really, as he's got a lot of the other tools down.

If he was on NXT for another year or 2, then maybe people would care

He's got the in ring ability, mic skills are alright nothing too spectacular. He just needs a character which he could've developed staying in NXT for another year.
The character I'd try out
Apollo Crews: Strength Talent Passion
Basically someone will begin taunting him, Miz would be good or maybe Ziggler again, taunting him about his lack of character his lack of passion for the industry. Eventually Apollo flips out and fights back. He gets on the mic and declares he is more passionate than anyone. In fact he is as strong and talented as he is passionate, and there ain't no one more passionate than him.
Easy to believe because we can see the dude is jacked and can do just about anything ability wise.

I like him a lot. My biggest complaint is his new basic doesn't have the Elite's arms. Lol

mate I reckon WWE sometimes hires the big Indy stars just to have them in their stable and get their fan base in, then just to hold them back, misuse them, bury them, etc. this guy is a real athlete and a has great charisma, he could put a good match on with anyone, he is would be a good heel IMO.
the hybrid names they use even, Apollo as in Apollo Creed, and Crews as in Terry Crewes... you know what I mean?

IMO, he has a lot of potential to be a main event guy, or at least upper card guy who can main event when needed. Problem is, they called him up way too soon. He should have stayed in NXT longer, develop his character and personality since thats his weakness. He's a great wrestler, just doesn't have any character for me to care for

He came up from NXT way too soon. He was just starting to catch momentum down there but still hadn't worked out who he was.
A lot of times we hear guys can't relax because they're trying too hard to figure out who or what they are. I think that's the case with AC. As it stands, he's an incredible athlete who smiles at everything. Because he was hot shotted to the main roster, he missed having the stress free environment of NXT to build his confidence.
Maybe a valet, a manager, or some kind of gimmick can save him. My guess is that he's going to have to find out quickly who he is and wants to be on tv or he's going to be gone.
I'm still a fan, because I love what he can do in the ring, but I'm not interested in anything he's doing. So that's where I worry about him.

Like a few others have said, he definitely left NXT too early. He's fun to watch in the ring, but he never really got to develop his character past 'smiling, happy to be here' guy.
Honestly, I think a trip back down to NXT could do him wonders. Just look at a guy like Tyson Kidd, who was pretty much in the same boat - very good in-ring talent, extremely bland personality, went nowhere after The Hart Dynasty split. He went down to NXT, had his heel run, started doing the cat stuff, tore it up in the NXT Title picture, then became a fan favorite when he returned and started teaming with Cesaro.

Kidd was awesome in NXT. I agree that same deal could work for Crews.

The guy just needs some character work, then he'll pretty much have it all. If he does improve his acting skills, I think he could have a future in the main event scene.

Though I agree he was called up way too early, I think he has unlimited potential. And though SD is supposed to be the land of opportunity, he's not being given much of a chance to showcase himself. For all we know he's got a great personality, but it'll never come out if he's not given a chance to do so.
If I had to guess his biggest downfall, it'd be that he's trying not to make waves. He's afraid of getting heat. Sometimes you got to go balls to the walls and I think too many are afraid to try.

Crews will continue to flounder as long as he is the smiling athletic guy. He needs something more to his character and then to be given the time to showcase it on air in promo segments.

I don't care to invest any time in a guy that is smiling non-stop and has no inner anger that can be released.
He is boring, and he is gonna drift on either show because there is no real reason to put a story line into his character.

-- Guy needs to go-off on TalkingSmack! ... Just let that frustration flow, the next time he's on the broadcast. TalkingSmack! did wonders for Miz going-off on DB.
And I mean a full on shoot, walking that TV-14 line... sure he'll get reprimanded for it by the office, but you know how much cred he'll get for such a ballsy move? Normally it's frowned on if a guy goes into business for himself, but I think this case would be different if it's from the heart, which I can clearly see him doing.
Naomi took the subtle route, going off on Twitter. And look where she's at now... she's champion!
(Personally, I'd mark hard if he ended such a rant with, "FEAR....... OF A BLACK CHAMPION!" before dropping his mic and leaving).
----Instant Superstar Status---- ... and TalkingSmack!'s views for that show, skyrocket!

The problem was that Vince wanted him called up after he got his rocks off looking at photos of Crews's physique. But when they met in person, Vince exclaimed, "Nobody told me he was a midget!"
Seriously, though, he is amazing athletically, but has no character to speak of. I would like to know the thought process behind his name. I would be glad to learn if it was HIS idea.

Remember what New Day was supposed to be prior to becoming what they are today? Though given the current PC climate plus the fact that Linda McMahon is directly tied to the president now they wouldn't touch any form a racially charged gimmick with a 10 foot pole. But man I would have loved to see that "angry, educated black man in a suit" gimmick that the new New Day was supposed to get play out for somebody one day.
