Long story short, over a year ago (may be 1 at this point) my laptop died. It was under warranty so after sending the laptop to Dell twice & them swapping out parts & having a tech come to my house they were never able to fix it. In the end they did a system exchange. I asked the rep on the phone who authorized the system exchange if I had to send the old one back to them & I was told I didnt. No, I dont have their name or anything. Fast forward to now & they've sent me a letter wanting the original laptop back & have called me as well (i dont pick up #'s I dont recognize). The letter also says my service tag is suspended, which I could care less about. My main question is, can they randomly just bill me over year after the fact for an item they told me I didnt have to send back since the acknowleged they couldnt fix? Please keep this on topic & not chime in with "you bought a Dell!?

They may be able to send you to collections. Do you have any email or writing saying they told you to keep it? You could tell them the person told you to keep it after the 2nd return and you threw it away. That may help.

You could tell them the person told you to keep it after the 2nd return and you threw it away. That may help. I don't have anything that they said that, it was over the phone. I just find the fact over a year later they all of a sudden want something back. Im not sure what they can put me in collections for. I paid for the 1st computer, it broke, the couldnt fix it, they sent me a new one & said didnt have to send them the broken one back. Have you ever spoken with Dell lol, its not as easy as that, its like any other big company, you say something, you get a blanket response, if you can even understand them since their call centers are all outsourced to other countries

You could try and say you sent it back to them a year ago. And threw away tracking info a long time ago.
