I lived in central Indiana when I collected LJN's Wrestling Superstars. I regularly searched high and low for new figures, but at some point, they all dried up and you could only get them mail order from a place in Canada that advertised in wrestling magazines.
I"m sorry to say the last full assortment I saw was probably early to mid 1987 at Hills Department Store - Ted Arcidi, Bob Orton, Hercules and Jake Roberts.
I finally found a single Johnny Valiant at a Toys R Us, but he must have been a leftover from a full assortment I didn't have.
I stopped collecting in late 1987, but did buy a few mailorder the following year for display only.
What was the last assortment you saw in stores?

I can barely remember what I saw on the pegs yesterday...And you want me to remember back to the late 80's? lol I will say it was the same as you, but looking at the checklist I never saw single carded versions of the Hitman and Anvil which they say we're in that series as well.

Can't recall when exactly I saw them, but my cousin and I absolutely got the following from Toys R Us at the same time:
Bam Bam, Honky Tonk Man, One Man Gang, DiBiase
I can also remember seeing the following on the pegs:
Adonis Slick Johnny V Referee - both, but mostly white IIRC. I can even place some random dept. store, the aisles and everything, where I would ALWAYS see a ref and groan while looking for someone cool. Couldn't remember the name of the store though, probably a regional New England place.

Latest I saw was an endcap filled with Bret, Anvil, Brunzell, Blair and Jake the Snake at Circus World. Found Haku and Rick Rude at a Toy Liquidator well into the Hasbro era.

I never saw ANY of those in stores, and would have gone nuts if I ever saw Bret & Anvil. I didn't get those until I was a teen collector. The Bees, I was able to wrestle them away from a friend in some trade I can't remember exactly, but they were the first real tag team I had. Now that I think of it, I never saw any tag box or any of the non-lame tag teams as singles (Strike Force, Harts, Bees, Bulldogs).

Part of Series 4 was the last I saw at retail and there were no tag sets, stretch-ems, bend-ems or thumb wrestlers available either. I did find various figures frm the first four series out there until around 1995 or so. Generally I found figures at discount stores like Rinks, Twin Fair, Gold Circle, Zayres, Hills, Bargain Barn and Ontario type stores. I am not sure if all of them were in existence at that time, but that was the type of store I found them in. I would love to see those type of stores again.

I live in Southeast Missouri. The last Of the large ljn's that I remember seeing were a King Kong Bundy and an Iron Sheik sitting on the peg at my local Western Auto Store..Seemed like the price was $11 each! To a kid back then that was some change!..Bundy disappeared around 1990 early 91 and Sheik sat there until late 91 early 92..The local Fred's store had The bendies up to 1990 91..I don't remember ever seeing any of the figures at Walmart around here now that I think about it.

I live in Maine, but visit family in Quebec often. Around early '92 I found a bunch of LJNs hanging around in a Zellers in Quebec City. I remember getting Mene Gene, Slick, and Vince McMahon.

I live in Southern California and the last ones sold in stores here were Blair, Brunzell, Hart, Neidhart, and Koko and those were at Toy's R Us. After that I had to get Harley, Gang, Duggan, Bigelow, DiBiase, Ax, Boss Man, etc from the Wrestling Ring catalaog. I believe they were located in Baltimore.

What was with the 1988 series? Was this only in limited areas? I know the 1989 was almost exclusive to the Wrestling Ring catalog or Canada but it seems like 1988 was tough to find too. During the flea market searches in the mid 1990s, you would only ever see 1984-1986 guys and just a few 1987 commons but never 1988. I figured they were exclusive to Wrestling Ring, too since I only ever saw them in the catalog pic and never on card backs. My grandmother found a few of the 1988 guys at Value Village in 1998 but other than perhaps at a toy show, that was it-no where else!
