Stupid question here and I'm well aware of it. Just curious and wasn't sure where else to post it. As it's not really a suggestion. Rather just a question.
Is there any reason we've never gotten many ECW guys in any of the lines? Even the ECW Championship was originally released with a WWECW CM Punk. The only guy that comes to mind is the Elite Series 41 Terry Funk.
I assume it's just a licensing issue, but has it ever been confirmed by Mattel any specific reason they haven't gone after these guys? Just curious and I'm sure I'm not the only one that does/has questioned this.

Very surprised we dont have a flashback RVD, but Idk how many guys are on good terms. When I think iconic ECW thats Sandman, Raven, Sabu, RVD, Dudleys, etc. We couldve had RVD and Dudleys at one point, but not sure of everyones contract status or if they're suing for anything.

That list of stars there makes my eyes tear up because I doubt we get them and I want them all.

Tommy Dreamer, Dudleys, RVD, Taz, Lance Storm, Chris Jericho, Rhino, Tajiri... Some of those guys were signed. Others I doubt are on bad terms.
That's why I ask why none were ever gone after. Yet we get guys like Warlord and Berserker (which is okay in my book).

I get that the guys I (and probably others) most want, we'll never see: Raven, Shane Douglas, Sabu, Sandman, Jerry Lynn, Justin Credible, Masato Tanaka, etc.
But I'm curious if lesser "controversial" talents have been approached and turned it down (for whatever reason), or if that's just an area Mattel aren't eager to venture into.

I know Tommy Dreamer said that he wanted to be able to focus on House of Hardcore, which is why he didn't sign with WWE.
But I don't know a lot about everything else. It may be a possibility that ECW isn't as popular in Mattel's eyes.

Doesn't need to sign with WWE to do business with Mattel, I don't believe. I'm sure signing a Legends deal helps the process though.
Honestly, Tommy and RVD are probably the two I'm most surprised by. I'd think Bill would wanna dabble into the ECW genre as well... then again, maybe not.

Mattel isn't signing individual talent anymore. Only doing figures of ppl with Legends deals.

Well if that's the case, then that pretty much explains why we haven't (and probably never will) gotten these ECW names. Definitely don't see WWE signing any of those guys to Legends deals. Maybe RVD, the Dudleys and Taz... maybe.

I was hoping we'd see a few more after Funk, but it's been almost a dozen series since then which kind of killed those hopes for me. Especially when the Dudleys came and went without a flashback release.
I think Bill said at some point within the past year that they do have the rights to RVD. Raven has had a rocky relationship with WWE, but was recently involved in some ECW commentary footage for the Network. Taz seems to be in good standing - he had been negotiating to bring his podcast to the Network at one point, but I don't know if his current podcast contract would preclude him from signing any sort of marketing/Legends contract with WWE. Dreamer was already mentioned earlier in this thread.
Beyond that? I'd love to see a Lance Storm, and he seems to be generally well respected throughout the business. Shane Douglas and WWE have heat going back 20+ years. Sandman and Sabu would be amazing, but both are probably too high risk for WWE to work with. Maybe with all the former WWE wrestlers in the concussion lawsuit, WWE will sign some more guys who made a bigger name in ECW/WCW to Legends deals for beef up the video game roster, do autograph signings, etc.
I think Rhyno was originally slated to be a flashback, but that probably got switched when he had his tag run with Slater.
Beyond that, I can't think of any guys that would really have mass retail appeal. I'd buy Mike Awesome or Justin Credible in a heartbeat, but I don't think they have much appeal beyond the small segment of ECW fans.

I get that certain characters like The Sandman and New Jack would be odd to see when WWE is PG right now (and Mattel markets their toys towards kids), but what about the technical wrestlers and high flyers? Someone like Super Crazy would be great to see. I mean, kids might get confused by Sabu's scars but at the same time, some of the ECW guys along those lines could be internet exclusives where as even Steve Corino could be in a regular line up.

I highly doubt Mattel would even bother to make a New Jack figure
