Anyone else get, I hate to say it, but an Austin 3:16 type vibe from his promo on Talking Smack? Obviously toned down and he's not the next Stone Cold. I'm just talking as far as going from a nobody to a somebody, and damn did he win me over with that. I just watched it and man, he a absolutely killed it. Bray level promo imo.
I see big things in his future after that tbh.
(This isn't the full thing, it's much longer on the Network.)

Yeah I saw that yesterday, I think the guys gets crapped on way too much. I think Rowan is pretty solid in the ring. And if he can just get a real character going on, he could do very well.

No.
I thought it was just plain weird and awkward. Didn't get it at all. He had nothing on Harper.

I've always liked Rowan and think he gets hated on way too much. He has a presence about him and could be something special if WWE gave him a chance.

I'm a fan of Erick Rowan. When given the chance, he can go in the ring. I also like his commitment to his character, and his promos are solid. I hope WWE pushes him.

i know what you're saying...but stuff like this seems to happen all the time on Talking Smack (Baron Corbin anyone?) and it usually needs nowhere, because they don't really ing care about anyone having character.

I didn't get an Austin vibe, but I did like what I saw. I think he could be an interesting character if given some time.

He would be more interesting if he started dressing as a viking and going "HUSS! HUSS!"

I got more of an evil Doink mixed with Snitsky and a dash of unmasked Kane vibe than Austin.

I did not expect that kind of high-pitch cackle coming from such a large burly man. This is entertaining.

He needs to be a Viking, like his old indy character.

Sorry but I thought the whole thing sucked :/
I don't think Rowan is a character I can ever become invested in. Speaks volumes when the most entertaining thing he's done is play with a rubix cube.

They should just give him a rain man gimmick. Where he is really smart but socially inept and awkward. Have someone like Dolph or Owens use him to make money, find loopholes in contracts, win matches. Seeing him re-enact the casino scene from Rain Man would be gold.

I think he should just be a festus reboot

I didn't get an Austin vibe, and I didn't think it was very good at all. Just awkward, and not in an uncomfortably good way, just a cringy, this is really poorly acted way. I like the clown idea, though.

I thought it was good but I genuinely have no idea what you're talking about in relation to Austin 3:16. There has only been one other promo since 1996 that hit that mark for me and it was on an entrance ramp in Las Vegas in 2011. This isn't even in the same hemisphere.
I think it's incredibly frustrating to see so many people do so well on Talking Smack, just to get none of that personality on the actual shows. I think Miz is the only guy that has successfully made that cross platform transition from having us not care, to making us care through Talking Smack, to making us care during the main show. It makes me feel like WWE has the talent but severely lacks the creative team to get these characters into the right situations where they can pull that personality out and onto our TVs.

I think WWE as a whole would GREATLY benefit from less matches on Smackdown and RAW and more backstage or pre-recorded promos or post squash match promos to get their characters across. Watching the same guys fight each other in tag matches before the PPV does nothing for anyone.

Watching the same guys fight each other in tag matches before the PPV does nothing for anyone. Totally agreed. The audience is completely desensitized to good matches. We see them weekly, usually multiple times a week, to the point where we take them for granted. My problem is that I don't care about who wins and loses those matches. That's WWE's biggest weakness imo. Raw probably has no way to avoid it because they have the third hour, but Smackdown with two hours largely has no excuse. Promos, segments, character building, that way when we see Ambrose vs Miz part 1004, we care who wins. I use them as an example because I think they've done a good job making an old feud feel exciting lately on Raw with those two.

For the time being Rowan is more interesting than Bray. Ironic.
