Well, as of this past Sunday, I have been married for one year, to an incredibly generous and supportive wife. She sat through Takeover and Mania two months ago, and for my traditional 'paper' gift, she's taking me to the SmackDown live event for the SummerSlam Heatwave Tour in Ft. Lauderdale in two weeks. The last time I attended a WWF (yes) house show, was July 15th, 2001. New Haven Colosseum. The first weekend that the WCW & ECW guys became The Alliance.
Forgive my rambling. Anyway... I just thought I'd ask how live events have changed - if at all - since that time? Can I expect anything other than the usual (nothing important, but lots of leeway for matches)?
We've been to lots of Raws, SDs, and PPVs/Specials over five years, but this will be our first non-broadcast WWE event. Oh, she has us 10 rows off the floor, facing the usual camera side, "...just in case they tape any Network content." (Not holding my breath, but I love the way her mind works). TIA.

I went to the live event in Miami at the end of December last year and it was amazing. Ziggler and Miz had a great cage match, Orton was in a six man as part of the Wyatt Family, there was a tag title scramble, Alexa vs Becky for the Women's Title, and then AJ vs Cena vs Ambrose was the main event for the WWE title. This was back before the shakeup when Smackdown was really good on tv too. Probably the best start to finish WWE house show I've been to since like 02-03ish.
BB&T is usually a smaller crowd than AAA for live events. I wouldn't expect anything out of the ordinary. Faces going over or crowd happy finishes of some sort. Lots of rematches from Backlash. Owens vs AJ and Nakamura vs Ziggler will probably be worth the price of admission. New Day is advertised to be back as well. It's a much more relaxed environment and I personally find house shows, in general, to be a lot more fun than TV events.
Hope you enjoy it!

I went to a house show about two years ago with my wife and son. It was my first show in over 10 years. It was their first. We all had a great time and it felt very similar as it did when I was younger. Very dim, poor audio, and a considerably smaller crowd. But we all enjoyed it.
Happy anniversary and enjoy the show.

I went to a Raw show recently. It was a week after the Superstar Shakeup. Even though the TV rosters changed, they were still touring with the old rosters. Jinder Mahal was in a handicap match teaming with Titus O'Neil against the Big Show. Both him and Titus got pinned simultaneously after a double choke slam. This was days before he became the #1 contender for the WWE title. That said, the show is a lot of fun. Its very fast paced. Once one match is over the next one is being introduced. Very minimum in ring promos. Wrestlers are a lot more attentive to the fans too. Mostly every face will take the time and give fives, hand shakes, hugs, and/or selfies with the fans at ringside. I actually prefer house shows to Raw. The last few times I've been to Raw its been boring. My kids and I had a blast at the house show last month.

I went to a house show the night before Fast Lane in Cleveland last year.
Main event was Sheamus vs Roman. To this day it's the best match ive ever seen Roman have.
I would take going to a house show over TV anytime.

House shows can be a ton of fun. They can also be pretty drab and boring, but if you haven't been to one in a while, I'm sure you'll have a good time either way.
You'll get to see the guys and gals work a little "looser" in the sense that they're not strictly confined to the TV environment. There's much more room for fan and crowd interaction, though that's sort of always been the case.
In terms of changes since the last time you went - the production has come a fairly long way. They don't come out from a curtain anymore, WWE brings a small stage with them with their usual video screens. They still usually use in-house audio, so if the building has poor sound, the show will have poor sound.
They'll also air commercials on the screens, and have fan participation votes (usually you vote on what match you want to watch from the Network before the show starts.) They also usually have a couple of backstage promos for guys coming up.

I went with a buddy about 3 years ago and Jericho got lost backstage lol. He came out to do the Highlight Reel and even made fun of himself for getting lost. What made it even better was he wasnt advertised. I got to see Cesaro and Kidd vs Goldust and Stardust vs Big E and Woods Ambrose v Wyatt Kofi v Barrett Natty v Paige Y2J v Harper Cena v Rollins
There are a couple more i am forgetting but those where the ones I remember most. I also got to see the local PD slam a drunk bastard against a brick wall. That alone was worth the price of admission.
