I've simply acquired too many figures, and have to cut back, but most of my figures aren't worth selling or I just don't want to part with them. Does anyone else have stories of cutting back to make room for more figures, quitting collecting, selling figures etc. that they'd like to share?

I'd like some tips on this too
Usually if I have a bunch of figures I'm confident I don't want, I put them in a bundle and sell them on eBay or Facebook groups. Which is easy enough, especially if you're more interested in space than money
My problem is that I like the idea of being a minimalist. Having a small all killer no filler collection, but the reality is when thrown into a toy shop with full shelves I simply have no control. I now have a collection of 250 figures maybe? When ideally I'd love to have about 100

I've sold my collection(s) a few times over the years. Near complete WCW toybiz, TNA [Non jakks], TNA Jakks, WWE jakks and my most recent Mattel basic's, for the same reason I just had WAY too many. For me, I'm a "all or nothing" type of guy, so I'd just sell the lot in one go to a collector to get rid of them.
I've started collecting again now, although I've dialed it right down to mainly "wrestlers I really like". My current collection is around 8 figures with some titles, and I want to get another 20 or so. Still awaiting certain others to be announced in future waves, but I won't be ballooning past 200+ like I was before.

Im currently facing that predicament now
I started collecting like 3 years ago and now ive acquired about 150 figures which im selling like a third of now but the harder part for me is knowing im only going to get about half my money back because my figures are loose and the ones i sell are not that rare usually
My new strategy when going about collecting is only cop what i cannot live without which has worked for me so far. This year alone ive added about 15 new ones and i currently only have about 5 on my want list that im waiting to be released

I had a bunch of elites that I never opened and am fine with only having a basic of the guy. So I listed them on Ebay to get rid of them. It's easier to part with an Elite Ezekiel Jackson, Elite 10 Kane. I've been scaling back on what I get from basics and elites.

I sold my basic and elite collection just to focus on flashbacks only. Sold them all in a lot and regret it to this day. If I waited a bit and pieced them out I would have made much much more

I have been a minimalist from the beginning. I've built my son a loose toy collection of only elite flashbacks and only one of each wrestler. Also I have been getting some doubles or alternate attires for me to keep MOC. Each collection I have would be about 75 figures. My son is 7 1/2 and now has no interest anymore and Mattel isn't putting out much that is keeping me interested either (I've bought 4 or 5 figures all year and my list of what's coming that I'll buy has only three names on it). I'm finding myself passing on things I was gonna pickup like warlord and lawler and I feel that trend will continue unless I see very big discounts unfortunately. I have no current plans to sell off.
Thank you Mattel for dm macho man and I have high hopes for e52 D'Lo Brown. Now please release a Sherri, elite surfer stings, and a young superstar Billy Graham to keep me interested. Oh and hopefully e53 is a wcw chris jericho!!

Just put them in a lot on craigslist or ebay. Someone will be hyped to get a deal and youll be hyped to get them off your hands. Cut your losses. Sell ones individually that fetch above MSRP.
These threads are depressing. Can you people quietly quit the hobby and not drag the rest of us into it? We didnt buy you too many figures. You and your own addiction did that.

All of my collection is currently in mom mom's garage. I'm moving into my GF's house at the end of the summer & the topic of my collection came up. My big, master plan was that I'd hang onto everything until it was time to send a child to college to help pay for it. I know the value isn't great now, but I'm hoping 15-20 more years could change that.

As of now I'm currently selling my collection. It's weird thinking how I would purchase figures of guys that I wasn't a fan of or just because I felt that I needed certain figures. I regret it and I'm at a stage in my life where I'd like to get rid of most of my figures. The reason simply because I don't have the space for them and my lack of interest in the current roster. I'm mainly working on building a WCW roster and I found that I'm content with having less figures. In a way it brings me back to my childhood, but also fills in a gap of having the guys I grew up with and couldn't afford back in the days. The hardest part with selling a collection is getting back the money you spent (or a fraction) if you're in a finically struggle and just going back and forth to the post office.

When I sold mine (and totally regretted it) I scoured Ebay for completed listings to nail a value down. Elites are generally worth selling individually. I did huge lots of all the basics since most basics don't pull down much on their own and I didn't have time to sit on a bunch of stuff not selling.

The ones I've sold were usually on EBay or Instagram. Pretty much the only places I would buy used as well. Never heard of selling them on Facebook but I guess that would work as well.
Just be prepared to wait if you really want that price you are looking for. Just because someone is selling a fig for $50 doesn't mean that is what it sold for. Looking at the sold listings will help.
I don't regret any I sold as you can always buy them again down the line. Price point might be factor but you still can.

A few months ago, I decided to no longer collect loose figures, which only consisted of basics and battle packs. So I've started to sell them off individually on the Trade broad here, and when the list gets small enough, I'll probably just donate what's left to a local toy donation place. It's not really about the money for me, just want to get rid of them. But would like to try to get some kind of money for the ones that have some value.

The figure 'market' is really bad right now, not even worth it to sell unless you are talking old MOC DMs and exclusives which will only continue to go up in price

I just sold a bunch of Mattel figures today (basic and elite). There's a collector shop near by that has always given me fair prices for my figures.
Unless it's Seth, Dean or AJ (where I have multiple of each), i keep it to one of each guy so as not to go overboard. It's hard picking one attire for guys like HBK or Macho Man, but it has helped reduce my collection and keeps me in l check.

I have been selling parts of what was 5000+ figure collection for almost a year now.
I have been collecting soley Wrestling figures since the age of 11. At the age of 36, my parents suggested to me that it was perhaps time to trim some of the fat.
This initially made me very angry, which could seem to most quite an over reaction. I suffer from mental illness. Agrophobia, Depression, anxiety, seperation anxiety, OCD, and suicidal tendencies. I am a very isolated person who can't cope with change. (Sorry to bring everyone down!)
I'm not a horder, but I have horded wrestling figures.
After a few months of deliberating, I decided that off-loading some of them was the right thing to do. I started by going through each figure one by one, deciding if... 'Do I really need this figure, or do I actually like this figure?'
If the answer was No - it got sold. If I could'nt decide, the figure stayed for now.
It was initally a very hard thing to start, and there has been the odd occasion, where certain figures have been swapped from the keep, to sell boxes - and back again.
But as time has marched on, it has got alot easier - I can decide alot quicker about what stays and what goes, and my Folks are proud of me for doing it. I use the money to fund new figures, and pick only the essential ones I want.
I have probably sold about a quarter, of my collection at the moment and its an on going process - but i'm getting there. I have kept all the pictures taken of the figures sold, so I can see how far I have progressed; and that I can say that I had 'that' particular figure at one time.
Sorry that what I wanted to say was quite long winded - but thats my story of parting with some of my collection.
Now, why won't anyone on ebay take these damn Deluxe Aggression figures off me?!?!

when I am hard up and need money, the figures are usually one of the first things to go ...I don't sell my favorites...I generally sell the ones I bought out of impulse.
