Let me start off by saying that I have not lost the fire to collect. I think I am just going to have to be more patient and picky with what I am adding to the collection.
However, over the last 5 months or so most of my collection has been packed away in totes because we were in the process of trying to sell our house. Well, last night it finally happened. We sold our house and bought a new house that will double our monthly mortgage. So, with that most of my collecting budget just went down the drain. With my collection being boxed up and the fact that I no longer can spend the way I once did, I came to the realization it is time to cut back and I no longer need the quantity that I have.
I am planning on in the next few days to sit down and sort what I feel is needed and essential to the collection and selling the rest.
I currently have 1 of every character that has been made in the line. I feel as if I don't want to stop collecting those. I came too far to throw in the towel on that. I also want to keep my Hogan/NWO related figures for sure. I think everything else is going to go. All repaints, all multiple attire characters, all play sets and accessories not essential to the character are all going as well.
To make this thread a discussion, have any of you guys had to do something similar and if so, what made the cut and what didn't?

I'm always very picky but because of spacial reasons, not financial reasons. I sometimes enjoy the restraint needed from buying a figure that's not necessarily a part of my overall plan but still tempts.

I'm in a constant struggle to keep it small enough to not piss off the missus. I'm currently selling over 200 bits. There are probably another 200 bits I would be happy to sell. but when it comes to loose there is not that much point for me, because I can sell 10 MOC or 150 loose to have the same effect on space.
I've recently sold about 40 hasbro and about 20 Jakks, and the net effect is zero!!!

with the lack of flashbacks, slow release of elite waves, and no friggin elite Surfer Stings in sight, I've had to become a cherry picker. Last new figure I've bought in months is the RSC Jericho (list of Jericho version)

I decided to cut back on the lines I collect. I'm selling my Mattel Basic and Elite and OSFTM ECW and only collecting MOC WWF Hasbro and Mattel Retro.

It's always been about the Hasbro era for me, so anything or anyone around that time is what I'm intersted in. I'll be collecting the new Retro's, of course, and may look to add a few of the Legends figures to my collection. These will only be favourites from around that time, mind.

I understand completely where your coming from. I would like to down size myself but I don't think I could part with most and the others probably wouldn't put a dent in what I have. I do not have a massive collection by no means but I do think I would appreciate it more if it were consolidated. I guess that's part of the problem collection from a company that is constantly pumping figures out. I have been iching towards going SHF only but knowing my luck we wouldn't get guys like a Michaels or Sting (must haves for me). Being an older collector has it's sucky phases for sure! Things were do much easier when someone else bought them and you didn't care to toss them in a tote

I hear ya, and I've posted about my issues with this before. I find what works for me is clearing house with some older figures that I no longer feel the need to keep around any longer -- whether it's because I have a better version of that character now or simply lost interest. I keep all flashbacks but when it comes to the modern roster I've tried to thin out to only 1-2 favorites per character (I've tried a strict "one" but that's too limited for me, lol). It may not be the most financially prudent way to go but it seems to work for me.

I only collect older legends. The good thing about it is I can pick up a new wwf hasbro from eBay anytime I have the extra money. I can buy the new retros in store, being 60$ for a set makes them easy to buy without regret, plus there slow to release them. And to top it of the 1 flashback per set of elites keeps it maintainable, plus most shelf warm and easy to get.
If I had unlimited funds and a huge home, then I would buy all of them and put them away. I still think even at that point I would only buy 1 of each wrestler. I do not want 20 cena, or reigns to look at.

I want quantity over quality because i still play with my figs, my goal is to get at least 1 fig of each wrestler and also getting fig when it has a very different outfit, like tugboat, shockmaster, typhoon.... I dont need 100 cenas in a different color, so i wish that mattel do more old school fig instead of repaint. I like the new figs first in line of sdiego, but i was hoping for old school superstars, we only got virgil, and i have the jakks version of the same, so i wont buy it, i have also virgil hasbro, but if the mattel was from his wrestling year or vincent from nwo, i would have buy it.

Nice input from some of you guys so far. I just got done weeding out my collection and removed about 100 figures total from it and have actually already worked out a couple deals on these very boards for some of them.
As I said in the opening thread, I have decided to keep all my Hogan figures, Macho Man figures, and Warriors just because they are all awesome figures. I also decided to keep 1 of every Mattel character made (for now). What I did get rid of are all the multiple eras of guys and just kept the era I liked the most. Example, I kept the DM Undertaker figure and got rid of all the others. Same with HBK, decided to keep his Rockers version and the RSC version. The rest are gone. Also getting rid of all the multiples of Cena, Sheamus, Cesaro, etc. It's amazing how many of those guys you can accumulate over time. lol

I'm also trying to be a little more selective these days. I too recently moved house and I just do not have the space to keep collecting MOC. Began doing so in 2013 and went a little crazy at the start, buying up everything that was released. It's only now I realise that I probably didn't need a Los Matadores Battle Pack. Now debating what to sell, what to open and what to keep MOC. I will hold on to most of my elites, but gonna trim down the Basics and Battle Packs. Also, only going to buy Flashbacks of characters I don't already own from now on. I will buy all of the Retros, but these will be displayed loose with my Hasbros.

Ive started being more selective too, partially because of space, as i have a tote full of wwe figures and a box full of accessories...but also because im into so much else. Ive soent a lot on marvel, mmpr, harley quinn, and funko ( pops, dorbz, minis and pint size heroes)
Ive put off dm savage, cactus, ascention elites, rsc shane, rsc finn, rsc hollywood, and rsc list jericho...while passing totally on the latest ziggler, kalisto, rowan, mankind, styles etc that would have been easy buys a year ago.
