I collect Elites. I collect Elites in order to (hopefully) one day get a wrestler to sign it (although I do have a three Macho Man Elites that obviously can never be signed). I only collect those of whom I'm huge fans of. Usually, it's only one, but for guys like Flair, Sting and AJ Styles, I tend to collect all of their Elite (although Flair was because despite having the first DM, I found the blue robe DM with the robe actually closed and had to get it for him to sign).
Sting is where I deviate big time from these rules.
I am trying to get every single Sting figure out there in what I consider to be the main line: Basics and Elite, and with the exception of the TNF 2 Pack with Ultiamte Warrior, which I did not want as I only buy battle packs of tag teams, I have accomplished that goal thus far.
This leads me to the retro line. I passed on the CAS Sting because it was never a look of his. The thing was, I had to see it in person. Same thing goes for the Sting in the Retro Line. I want to see it in person before I make it a part of my collection. And yet, all of my Walmarts either don't have it, or are still doing the reset and literally have NO WWE figures anywhere.
At this point, I've decided that I have no more desire for the figure, and made me wonder how often this happens to collectors. How often does the frustration of the hunt lead you to just not even care to get the figure anymore? I would assume that if apathy does set in its for figures you were on the fence for, but regardless, I'm just curious to know how often you've just decided to pass on a figure because it's been too time consuming and draining to track down.

The hunt makes the find even better. My heart lept out of my chest when I finally found Crow Sting.

I'm a retail only guy when it comes to this hobby. I've gotten such great deals ($8 elites at Target, $7 elites at WalMart) that I can't bring myself to spend the 20+ online for something that I can eventually find in stores. If I can't or never find someone in stores, I just put that money towards something that I DO have to order online like Code Red, Vinegar, or Redemption Blu-Rays.

I know it's foreign in today's society, but it's called patience. Retro 2 is barely hitting stores. This is why most people on here complain about "shelf warming". They eagerly await a set and find it right away. When the stores finally have a decent stock available all of a sudden they are "warming"

I wouldn't know considering my area has skipped the past 5 waves. Alabama doesn't mean all to the distribution ers.

There's only been one figure that I have never been able to find and that was E16 Kevin Nash. Fortunately I had a friend in another state who was able to find it for me and I returned the favor by getting him Diesel which he couldn't find in his area. Everything else I have found due to patience and persistence. Plus buying online makes the hunt so much easier. Retro series 2 hasn't even shown up in my area. I think its too early to call it quits on a figure that just got released.

It will usually add fuel to my fire haha
But the main problem i ever had was finding E47 aj styles at retail. I gave up and finally paid scalper prices only to find multiples late. Patience is always key. Unless you cannot be patient, then try buying the figure at a fair price at least.

We waited over a year for BAF Kane and HOF 4.

Just this morning my MOC Elite RVD arrived in the mail. Paid £35, never saw it upon retail release. I also remember at least 4 years ago, I was trying to find an Elite 21 Ryback. He was due his main event push back then, so finding his figures (Basic or Elite) was a nightmare.
I just know hunting HOF 4 Edge will be weary.

I'll usually go to the Walmart and target across the street from my house every two days, then I'll have a day where I go to 4 or 5 Walmarts and if I still don't find it, I'll get burnt out and take about 3 weeks off from looking at all and then start again. I have come to realize that philly gets everything last, so I don't even bother looking until I see multiple people find something and post it on the Mattel page

The distribution in Canada is so bad that figure hunting is non-existent. Honestly, if it weren't Ringside, I wouldn't be collecting as it would just be impossible.

Honestly it just makes me more determined to find the figure. I have bought a few figures online but, that's kinda a last resort.

Maybe I'm impatient? IDK. I just know that for the most part, I buy directly from RSC. I like it because although I can't help it if the paint apps don't look great since I can't sort through the figures and select the best of the best, I at least get good packages and authentic merchandise. A lot of my figures in my area appear with crushed backs and dented plastic windows. If I'm not there with a fresh case (meaning if I can't get the guy in target/TRU to grab me a fresh case), the boxes are garbage. As a person who displays teh figures in the box, it means a lot that they be kept as good as possible.
It's only the store exclusives that really irritate me I guess. I don't like to pay on auction sites as I'm always skeptical of how they'll arrive and whether they've been played with. And again, I repeat, with the ways my stores treat their inventory, I'm lucky to find half opened figures. Two months ago, I thought about picking up the entire retro set, but most of the figures were covered in a green goo (I think it was some soap or something). I was not about to buy that.

I briefly collected some Mattels a few years ago then stopped once I felt my collection was complete.
However, with the new Retro series, that all changed. I made excuses to drive to Wal-Mart. The thrill of the hunt had me feeling like a kid power-walking through the mall to get to KB Toys to try and see if any new Hasbros were on the shelves. However, I had problems finding any at first. So I ordered the first 4 on ebay. I got the package and was enthralled but it felt more like opening a Birthday gift instead of that awesome moment when you find them in the store!
Not too long ago I scored Warrior and Undertaker in the store and that was a fun experience. Had I not been in such a rush, I probably would have savored the feeling a bit more. Most recently, I have struck out with series 2 on 3 occasions. That prompted me to just pay double on eBay as well as preorder series 3. The feeling will not be the same...but at the same time, I love being able to live out my childhood again and collect these from the start instead of wishing I had the money or not knowing how to get the older figures I misses out on.

I like hunting lol. It's so liberating to finally find the figure you were searching for.
