If they carry future retro series I would love to pick them up at TRU. Would bring back good memories. Never bought a single Hasbro at a Walmart.

Maybe if they didn't price everything much higher than everywhere else they might draw customers back? Well they have no free capital.

TRU has long been in financial crisis. Nothing new. Brick and mortar stores as a whole are in financial crisis. Look at some of the kingpins of retail from not that long ago. Sears, KMart, JC Penneys, Circuit City, Ames, Hills, Montgomery Wards.........ALL DEAD or just about non existent. This trend will continue so long as retail continues to sink its own ship and have no answer for a company like Amazon that has a 1000% lower over head and thus can offer lower prices. People will spend more, but they have to get something for their extra dollar. Mass retail cant compete on price level, customer satisfaction, customer service and are even losing the "I want it now mentality." They cant keep shelves stocked and with Prime, you can have your item in 2 days and never leave your house. Man I forgot all about Hills. The old Hills building is still here but after several tenants its now a church of all things lol. Sky City was another department store that was eaten up by Walmart giant

Maybe if they didn't price everything much higher than everywhere else they might draw customers back? Well i totally disagree on that one, there prices are right in line with other retail. There 2 for $15/$30 wwe sales are pretty good cause i can usually find something. They carry neca alien/predator figures which i collect. I spend so much there i am constantly getting rewards money. They actually do a good job stocking exclusives and new wwe figures since they can literally just move stuff around and make new price tags to stock it. The bad part is my local store only gets a truck once a week so if its not there on thursday, gotta try next week. I really think amazon should buy toysrus, since they bought whole foods why not...

It would be nice to see some of these stores make a retro comeback even if only for the holidays

From what I read, Baby R Us is a real problem not really TRU.
With that said, thereis still a problem. Bricks and Mortars need to give a better experience. Perhaps it is time to hire employees that are not terrible? Make checkout less frustrating and offer more discounts during the week.
Sears is a mess but the selection is there. They need to find a way to combine their online and in store better. Stores need to implement family events and get people into the stores. If young people like videogames, figure out a way to bring that in.....perhaps playing games in store for kids or something.
These millionaires at the top of Sears and JC Penny are just doing the same tired out of date tactics. Maybe offering customers food/samples/ opening a restaurant in the store would work.
I hope TRU lives on. It would be a shame if it happened. I really miss smaller toy stores. I remember living in Astoria Queens and at the end of the block, their was a toy store that featured trains. I miss the early 90's. My dad is a cheap man and really awful at being a dad. Just being honest..........but it would have been a great memory if he got rid of his penny pinching ways and actually bought a train set for me.

I found the a force set the other day. 3 of them. I am/was pretty sure these are gonna get snatched up really quick. My check at work got messed up because they didnt put in my bereavement pay in time. So im missing 16 hours pay. I cant afford this. So i hide one. Ill be back tomorrow and itll be ok. Next day i rush in, go to my spot on the tmnt aisle and...there it is!! Yes! I NEED the singularity and elsa bloodstone. I pick up the box and...it feels really light. I open the front and the whole inside is gone. The plastic and all 6 figures. I look over behind the other boxes and there is the plastic. Empty. My set was stolen in less than a day. Lucky for me the other 2 sets were still there. Saves me, but still tru lost 120 bucks. And they wont do anything about it.

By Friday evening both of the goldbergs stolen. I know the manager and showed her and she just marked them down to $50 each and left on the shelf. That tru use to be a high volume store when I was a world leader there. It is like a graveyard most of the time now.

I hope not as Toys R Us just finally started getting good in Canada. Our website even has listings for the Network Spotlight AJ Styles and the Main Event Ring, and they just got TJ Perkins. No other retailer in Canada is that up to date on distribution when it comes to Mattel figures.

On the subject of TRU, how often do they have deals on Network figures? I could use another Vince but don't want to pay $20 for it.

Yeah, most brick and mortar stores have an employee problem in my experience. Most actively avoid helping customers, and when you do get someone to look their inventory up, they act like the customer is some freak show for being in a toy store. I'm like, "guy.. you work in a toy store."

Toys ‘R’ Us could go bankrupt within weeks as it struggles with billions of dollars of debt and mounting pressure from suppliers, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Toys ‘R’ Us’ suppliers, fearing that the retailer may be in trouble, are now tightening trade terms, including holding back on shipments unless they receive cash payments on delivery...

Just being honest..........but it would have been a great memory if he got rid of his penny pinching ways and actually bought a train set for me. Where did you hear that?! That couldnt be further from the truth. Baby R Us IS the reason why TRU still stands. Its also one of the biggest reasons why TRU and BRU are in the same store now, instead of having free standing versions. While I agree with you on the brick and mortars issues, a store like TRU CAN NOT hire better employees. A higher caliber employee requires a higher pay scale. TRU is privately held. It has no free capital to do so. Its on its last legs and without a complete and total restructure and a public offering...that would not be possible. There is no money to do so with. They also cant afford discounts, as they are already suffering financially. The selection is there at Sears?! Sears is dead, for all intents. Even when Sears was on stabler plains...they never had a selection. Back in the 70s and 80s when catalog sales were big, yes...THAT had a huge selection. But the stores themselves were always known for being outdated and not in line with trends. The reason Sears isnt bringing video games is because Sears was not and has never been known for the video games. There are tons of specialty stores, big box and of course online that people go to for their gaming needs. As far as TRU goes...most financial experts say this is the last Christmas that TRU will stand. Chapter 11 will be filed here in the next month or so. They have no other option at this time. Suppliers have already put TRU on strict guidelines for the holiday and the store will face a SERIOUS inventory problem. Dont expect shelves to be stocked or trucks to be coming in twice, three times a week. TRU currently has over 5 BILLION in debt for its 1600 US stores. 5 BILLION! TRU is in such dire straits they will need a few hundred million just to file the petition. These loans will protect vendors for merchandise the store plans to sell during the holidays. That way they cant just cut and run on them. Book it...TRU is finished. Damn sad day. But the greedy and even lazier top has sunk the ship. You WASTED money...WASTED money because you didnt want to organize stores, market research and determine what and why something sells in store A and not in store B. You refused to adjust. You thought you could tell the customer that the customer in Boston, Mass wants the same things as the guy in Houston, TX. You refused to become a publically traded company in a power scheme, which limited you to funds and forced you to be one of the lowest paying retailers on the planet. You had no ability to obtain or retain any talent and you even had trouble just hiring at all. Why? Because you didnt have the capital to do anthing else. You were short sighted and wanted to squeeze a dime from every penny. TRU will be the largest to fall in 2017. Perhaps this will put other companies on notice, but I highly doubt it. Everyone thinks they have the perfect plan to run a company and REFUSE to make adjustments. They refuse to learn from their competitors mistakes. And they fall. While, I feel for those poor folks who will be losing their jobs and for people like myself who will lose a piece of their child hood....I am HAPPY to see another "too big to fail" corporate giant fall at their own hands. When the doors close for the final time...tears wont fall for the loss. Tears will fall for what could have been.
