Just watching WWE Unreleased and having some surreal moments...like watching a whole arena full of people cheering for an overweight cop with a confederate flag on his uniform handcuffing a black manservant to the ring ropes and beating him with a nightstick. Can't even begin to imagine the E trying to get away with this today (even a little surprised they added this part of the match to the DVD to be honest)

That's because the world is full of over sensitive snowflakes now, who can't handle anything and cry over the little bit of whatever it is that bothers them at the moment - usually with a protest or a social media post - and then they feel they did their part....
Wow, that kind of got away on me there.
Any who.... that Unreleased DVD set is pretty awesome at times. The Bret vs. Bulldog match from June of 92 for the IC Title was sweet!

The funny thing about people who love to use the word "snowflake", is that they're usually either a complete hypocrite who will cry whenever the tables are turned and they're the ones offended (quite easily, might I add), or they are people with no empathy whatsoever for any other human being.

I was feeling like a special snowflake until your last line. Then you hit the nail on the head to describe me.

Would this be what you are referencing my friend...? Make sure to prepare your public statement of apology for this and how you support and celebrate all of the diverse buttocks of the world. And that you wish them no physical harm in any way.

If you want to look at the political climate and pro wrestling at the same time you'll always find something wrong. But if you just look at the WWF you'll see a good guy beating up a bad guy. It just happened to be the case where the good guy was a prison guard from the south, beating a bad guy who was a man servant.
It's like this thread. You can see comments which take political sides and point fingers at the other side. Or you can see people enjoying wrestling.
Either way this thread wont end well.

You can always find something politically incorrect throughout the history of wrestling if you look deep enough. Nobody ever would've guessed an ex-employee kidnapping his boss and pulling a gun on live TV would ever have been met with deafening cheers, either, but it was one of the most iconic moments in the history of the company.

UPN had a guy fired and retired because he shared the same skin color as a certain other group. You might say UP....Who? To which I'd reply, Exactly.

I'm sure this has been a running change for a while, but I'm quite pleasantly surprised to see the Network showing complete Benoit PPV matches and no longer editing out his name in the commentary. Times have changed!

Times have changed! One Night Stand 2006. If you skip to the Guerrero/ Benoit match, the descriptor says "Eddie Guerrero in Singles Action". Noticed that the other day.

I was watching Prime Time Wrestling earlier and there was an interview segment with DiBiase. He said, about 4 times, that he "had bought a slave". Turned out he was talking about Hercules, but still. "Bought a slave" wouldnt fly now. Not even close.

To me, that's just apart of wrestling. Bad guy vs good guy. Storytelling.
Imo, most things like that are only seen 'racist' if they're interpreted to be so.
Like in Space Jam, MJ asked his grandmother what she was cooking and she said fried chicken. I mean, who doesn't like fried chicken? I don't know anyone who could compare fried chicken to a racial issue but I'm aware some people of this world try to.
It's honestly all how people want to interpret it.

No, I am not a hypocrite. I don't get offended so that's probably why. I take whatever people say at face value and figure that it's their opinion, so be it, I have one too. Secondly, I do have empathy for people in this world. Because I am not some rich white guy that got handed the family job at age 25 and has had everything given to me over the years. I have had much 'down and out' times over the years, so I always have compassion for others. Therefore your theory of someone who uses the word 'snowflake' is quite wrong when it comes to me.

hey guys...if you want to have political discourse so much the private message button is damn easy to press! no need to derail entire threads because of two overly sensitive sides.
as for the thread topic, wrestling has always been a reflection of what's going on in society. racism was a big thing in wrestling- the wwf's portrayal of black men through the 80s was embarrassing as it was one stereotype after another.
just look at how women's role in wrestling has changed since society's perception of women has improved.

Sorry, but this has a recipe for disaster written all over it. While I do agree with some of the things posted here, after much deliberation, I'm gonna lock this up. Because it's only a matter of time till a line gets crossed, a fight breaks out, and someone gets in trouble. And then my bosses blame me for letting things go for too long.
I'm sorry. But complaints and hate mail can be sent to:
