I feel like there's like a dozen lines all coming out together in recent months, what with the regular lines, store exclusives, internet exclusives, PPV series, etc, and it's really stretching the dollar for a lot of collectors, especially ones who really have to pick and choose.
I've been reading about a lot of QC issues with newer figures and I honestly feel like the reason for it is that there's just TOO MUCH product being put out currently. Is the answer fewer lines? More staggered releases? Or should Mattel really look at sales and try to cut back on stuff that might not be selling as well? I see TONS of Battle Packs clogging shelves for months, sometimes years after their release. The Mutants and Zombies series are littering pegs by me all over the place. Same with a lot of basics and certain Elites like the Ascension, JYD, Bryan, Sid, etc. Not to mention the issues of people never being able to find certain series anywhere before the next one comes out and then you're SOL unless you wanna pay scalper prices at secondhand shops. I feel like something's gotta get cut eventually, right?
It's too much to keep up with as is, and it just feels like more and more keep coming, and less and less people are thrilled with the finished products as of late. What's the solution? Interested to hear what you all think.

They already have cut flashbacks way down. I wish they didn't. I don't care about much else

They already have cut flashbacks way down. I wish they didn't. I don't care about much else Forgot to mention that - a lot of people have seemingly been upset about the lack of upcoming flashbacks in favor of more current stars. I've been enjoying collecting the more "oddball" flashbacks as of late and it's a shame that there's not a whole lot more on the horizon outside of the Virgil TRU exclusive. :-(

Nope. Nobody is saying we need to buy everything. While we might not like Mutants and Zombies figures kids do and there are certain collectors here who have bought certain ones also. I'm in the Northeast and with the exception of Retro Series 2 I haven't had any issues finding any new product on the pegs. So the pegwarmers haven't stopped my area stores from getting the newer sets.
Mattel releases the core basic line every month that and Elites every other month. That doesn't mean the stores will get them then, because they go to the stores distribution centers who ship them to the stores in their district. As for all the other lines seeming to be coming out all at once is because we are about to hit the holiday season so retailers want the product on the shelves so now they are cleaning out their distribution centers. And JYD was the best figure in that wave so there's no way for them to know who will warm or not.

They have cut back...on flashbacks and articulation.
On a side note - It breaks my heart to see fantastic flashback figures rot on shelves. They are almost always the best figures from each wave.

I don't think they need to cut back. I think they just need to put their foot down with the retailers and let them know if they are asking for a exclusive line then they need to find a way to put it on shelves in a timely way nation and world wide. It makes no since for people to have to keep search multiple stores when these lines come out to find them. I my self had to buy the last 3 HOF and TNF series off the bay and AMZ because I couldn't find them in stores. And I actually kept searching and waited 2-3 months after store release before I gave in and brought them from the 3rd party sites. I have 5 targets, and about 8 Walmart's all within a 45 minute drive at most to me and I have this problem every release, a long with most other people in America. If they can get retailers to fix the distribution problems I have no problem with all these lines being out. I would love a legends and flashbacks only series like Jakks Classic Superstars.

Nope. Nobody is saying we need to buy everything. This. /thread Every time I see this question in regards to anything, my first thought is, why would a company want to NOT put out something that could be a potential hit and make them a lot of money? Who knows what's going to catch fire. Look at all the different lines Funko takes on. They know there's a finite amount of time that they'll have a big market share and be insanely popular, so they're going to milk that motherhugger for all it's worth. That's smart. Don't like it, don't buy it. Can't afford it, can't afford it.

Why would anyone or any business want to make less money

I've expressed my feelings about this in other threads. Purely from my view as a collector, it really bugs me to see figures that I would gladly own pass by because of having to set priorities according to my budget. Or worse, having figures in exclusive lines that I'm incapable of even having a chance at getting due to the distance I'd have to travel to the nearest store. (Before anyone says "just use the internetz dummy," I don't own a credit card.)
But I don't expect the market to cater to my situation. Companies will earn their money, either from me or from someone else. My loss is another's gain.

Even as a one line collector like Elites, the way they've been cranking them out is insane, absolutely cannot afford exclusives on top of the main line and the extra sets (NXT, Then Now Forever) are collection killers.
The other thing that really hits the heart for me though is the stiff competition being pumped out alongside Mattel WWE. Star Wars Black series, marvel legends, power rangers legacy and there's more important ones for other folks too I'm sure, but they are all lines aimed at the same demographic with similar high end mass retail price points and it's become an impossible task juggling which to buy and when, leaving me as a collector of fine plastic often unfulfilled.
To make off with everything they collectively put out over any two months including exclusives, you're talking around £500-£600 if not more which is beyond ridiculous.

No. It’s not Mattel’s fault you’re poor

I think the reason for the decline in flashbacks is because WWE doesn't have a variety of wrestlers signed to legends deal.

Collecting is something you get to do if you have your finances and priorities straight and if you still have something left over.
If that isnt you, or anyone else, then collecting isnt the best option.
Not mattels problem. Not my problem. Keep it coming mattel.

Everything goes in cycles and Ive been telling everyone for 6 months, after a lot of analysis, they have literally run out of genuinely marketable old school wrestlers to make.
They are doing very well to get NXT and cruiserweight wrestler out to mix it up a bit, but most of us are not identifying woth these new wrestlers which makes collecting a bit lacklustre at times.
The new epic moments and return of EG are a nice touch too.
For flashback collectors, Im sorry but from here on out its looking quite grim.

If I collected current guys and not just flashback I would def. say yes they should. Cutting back would cut down on repaints and would make a lot of figures mean something. How many Roman figures are there? Same with the other big names? I know Mattel has to get put them in sets and I am not saying not to but I think we would see a bit less of everyone if they cut back as far as repaints go. Also I feel like a set a month is hard to keep up with especially when they go off and make sub sets on top of that.

Only on these boards would someone complain about Mattel releasing too many figures. Yeah I’m serious He isn't the only one who would want them to slow it down. Some people have other responsibilities in life besides collecting plastic toys. Lights, cable, food, water, families and pets could all Be major things that go above trying to get figures. It's just not in everyone's budget.
