Now the WWE never officially had weight classes, but looking at the IC and WWF title divisions respectively, they pretty much did.
Now don't get me wrong I enjoy some crossover between the two but having the little guys in the world title scene leads to some ridiculous television. In what world would Seth Rollins and Braun Stroman have a 15 minute match? It looks stupid, anybody want to argue that it actually benefits Stroman?
Part of the reason the IC Title died is because it was no longer the workhorse title. We could have a damn good IC Title scene today with the talent of today, but most of the middleweight guys are considered heavyweights.
Let me end this on a positive note, I've enjoyed Lesnar's reign very much. The stuff with Joe, Stroman, and Reigns has been great. These guys look good in there with Brock, I believe what I'm seeing. I cringe at the idea of Finn Balor wrestling Lesnar, I consider him to be a cruiserweight. Neville is more formidable imo if we're going there.
I'm not a hater here, I just like things in their rightful place. Wrestling isn't real, but that doesn't mean it should insult your intelligence. Bret Hart wrestled a lot of big men as Heavyweight champion, but he had to go to great lengths to carry it off. Now we are expected to just accept it, No matter how hokey.

Living by weight classes in WWE simply limits the booking too much. It provides more opportunity to guys that aren't beasts, which is a lot of the roster nowadays. If Brock had to face heavyweights/super heavyweights every time he defended the title, it would be a revolving door of the same 5 guys. The idea of Brock taking on a guy like Balor in my opinion would be a great story where the challenger is seemingly in way over his head and will have to overcome the Champion with what everything he has. We've moved past the point of 6'5" dudes dominating the main event and it would be a giant (pardon the pun) step backwards if they were to decide to reinstate such a weight class rule. That's why I'm glad they dropped the "heavyweight" part of the WWE Championship when AJ Styles won the title.
At the end of the day, these wrestlers whether they make it or not are all hoping to one day hold a WWE world championship - it would really suck if that opportunity was taken away because they didn't fit a certain look.

Mainstream America isn't buying this stuff, they just aren't. Hell they didn't buy HBK and Bret and I loved the Hitman. I'm just looking at some of the problems pertaining to appeal in wrestling. I think the IC Title showcases the smaller guys better and doesn't force them to have to carry the show. Name one small guy who made his name in ring work, that has set the industry in fire? I'm sorry but this Brock reign has been terrific. |

Shawn Michaels Bret Hart Two examples of small guys winning the title... Not a new thing. Look at how they were booked though, even in their primes. As severe underdogs, and honestly neither of them was a Grade A draw as the guy. |

I'm sorry but this Brock reign has been terrific. You can nitpick the booking, but Daniel Bryan is a tremendous example of a small guy who set the industry on fire. And no, I don't mean into a boom period like the mid-late 80's or the Attitude Era. But the audience literally could not get enough of him and was incredibly over. And also, there hasn't really been any big guys since those eras that have set the industry on fire as well. |

Nope. The only thing you need to sell the big guy vs. small guy match is a good story. Which, granted, WWE is in short supply of these days.
Aside from Cena, the two biggest stars in the past decade are Punk and Bryan. People buy into the smaller guys. If they just bought into guys based on their size and look, Lex Luger and Diesel would've been huge draws. Or Roman Reigns. It all comes down to the booking, talent, and charisma.

Personally, I'm not a fan of a bunch of small guys. I prefer wrestlers like Braun, Brock, Joe. Not saying I don't like any smaller wrestlers as I love Styles and Shawn Michaels is one of my all-time favorites but I'm not into watching a bunch of guys who 'size' wise belong on 205 Live.

I firmly believe that one of a possible adjustments to improve the product is to have official rankings akin to UFC, for them to be a thing that counts.
So that when you have these countless listless matches on raw and smackdown and ppv, they feel like they may have a purpose even if the booking of the feud has been sorrily lacklustre. Which is a whole lot of feuds these days sadly. It can also help guys who do struggle with mic spots and that side of the show because the name of the game, which it always has been at it's core is to become WWE champion not The Rock.
It's lazy sure and NXT of 2 years ago is the absolute best way to go across the board but it's a thought.

I think it helps that big guys are more of a minority now, can you imagine Goldberg as a full time star today? I can think of only a few believable opponents for a guy who looks like that. Brock hasn't wrestled too many little guys during this run, but him vs Rollins was just lame. Yea right.
Kane, Undertaker, Rock, Austin, HHH, Big Show, Foley, not all of these guys were giants. None of them were what you would call small though.
I liked Balor in Japan, they used him as a light weight. I enjoy and appreciate wrestlers of all types, I just don't like everything mixed and matched.
I liked cards that had a great wrestling match for the IC Title and two larger than life heavyweights in the main event. I don't think I'm alone on that.

I think Balor and Nevelle look more like credible threats against larger guys than Rey or Daniel Bryan. I personally think everyone in the WWE should be focusing on being the world or Universal titles. I have said this in the past the Crusierweight title while it has a place should not have it's own show. There shouldn't be a 205 live weekly show. What they should have done is have the 205 tournament as an annual event starting a few weeks prior to WrestleMania then culminating with the finals match at WrestleMania. Then that guy has bragging rights. Yes, have the CW champion defend the championship throughout the year on PPV'S and RAW or SD. But they certainly shouldn't have a weekly show where all they are doing is focusing on being the cruiserweight champion. Everyone should be focusing on the top title in the company.

The last entertaining one on one match that Brock had was against CM Punk. Its not the size of the wrestler but the story that is being told. You can buy into any match up if the participants have sold you on the story with the build up and the match itself inside the ring.

Randy Savage used to go toe to toe with Andre the Giant. How is that any different than Rollins & Strowman? Or is it just another excuse to make a thread complaining about modern day WWE?
