In the 80’s, most wrestlers had over the top and outside the box gimmicks. In today’s “reality era”, who that wrestled in the 80’s would be able to be successful today?
Personally, I think Roddy Piper would do great. The guy could out talk anybody and was good in the ring.

Savage & Piper are the first to come to mind. Those two could succeed in any era.

I have no reason to believe that Hogan wouldnt. He dominated the 80s in the "larger then life" era and once wrestling changed he adapted to it and changed with it. If a 6'8'' Braun Strowman can get over these days, who's to say a 6'7'' Hulk Hogan couldnt? Especially if you've seen his work in NJPW.

Nobody from the 80s would do well in today's WWE if they were subject to the same 50-50 booking as all of today's wrestlers

Bret Hart would have some incredible matches with today's talent.
Randy Savage would flourish in any era.
I think Jake Roberts would fit in well in the modern scene.
Million Dollar Man's gimmick would probably work even better now given the widening gap between rich and poor.
Vader would be wonderful today and stand out greatly.
Gotta agree with Roddy Piper as well.
Bottom line is that truly top level talent would find a way to thrive in any era despite how radically different they've been.

I personally don’t think Hulk Hogan would be nearly as big now. Though he was popular back then, he was booked like Superman more than Cena & Roman combined. Fans would backlash because he’d be viewed as the company’s chosen one. They’d complain how he doesn’t sell. How he never loses. How he’s always in the spotlight even if he’s not champion. And how he is always in the main event.
I know because that’s what I did all through the late 80’s into the late 90’s. And it’s far worse nowadays with today’s fans.
Fans today would gravitate to who they perceive as the underdog in Vince’s eyes. Savage, Piper, Steamboat, & Roberts would be more popular than Hulk.

Nobody from the 80s would do well in today's WWE if they were subject to the same 50-50 booking as all of today's wrestlers I'm a big 80s guy, and I agree. The guys in the 80s while more charismatic, benefited from the best booking era in WWF history.

Nobody from the 80s would do well in today's WWE if they were subject to the same 50-50 booking as all of today's wrestlers TBH, I could see them doing fine with 50-50. The bigger problem would be the heavily scripted promos and segments that don’t let wrestlers show their charisma. Guys like Roman Reigns and Jason Jordan are actually likeable guys in real life, but the heavy script keeps them from succeeding in the fans’ eyes. Sadly, if a Roddy Piper, Jake Roberts, Randy Savage, and other great talkers were given all of the strict guidelines and scripted promos that the current guys are, they would all fail and never live up to their full potential just like most guys we see today.

I honestly think every single one of them would struggle with the modern WWE. Wrestlers came up with a lot of the personality of their characters themselves back in the day. So people like Roddy Piper, Randy Savage, Jake Robberts and yes even the Ultimate Warrior would not have been able to develop their characters organically. I would go as far to say that if characters were done in the same way back in the early 80's as they are now, WWE would not have caught on the way that it did.

Bad news Brown. His gimmick was as close to reality as today’s era wants.
