I just read an article that says Chris Jericho, despite working WK 12 with Kenny Omega in NJPW is still under a WWE contract. The article goes on to say that some people believe that Vince gave his blessing as a way of enticing Omega over to WWE. It's an interesting read, these guys are generally reliable. I think it's a smart business move by Vince for a lot of reasons. Firstly, and foremost, NJPW can't talk about Chris Jericho without mentioning WWE in some way shape or form. Obviously everyone knows where he comes from, so...even if on TV or PPV they don't talk about WWE per say, I think it's still good exposure for WWE on the whole. Additionally, if it is in fact a tactic to get Kenny Omega to WWE, then bravo! Omega is THE guy WWE needs. He is really one of, if not the hottest commodities in wrestling and one of the best workers in the world today. Thoughts? cultaholic.com/news/chris-jericho-still-wwe-contract-despite-upcoming-njpw-match/

Yeah, Kenny ain't leaving New Japan, regardless of Jericho's contract status. Nor should he. Why go from being the top gaijin in NJPW to potentially just another guy in WWE? He's not stupid. NJPW is gaining lots of steam, and he's positioned to be a huge piece of their expansion into America.
And, FWIW, I still don't believe Jericho is under contract right now. But who knows.

Most credible sources have stated that Jericho only signs short term deals now and is not under any sort of commitment to WWE right now. I believe Jericho himself has confirmed the short term deal stuff.

I still think there is a bigger picture. I think HHH's announcment in Europe may point to a deal between WWE and both ROH and NJPW.

I wouldn't either. Why leave a company where you're one of the top guys to go to a company where he'd probably be made to wrestle in NXT for six months to a year before being brought up to the main roster and mismanaged for a year or two, leading to him becoming disenfranchised with the business and quitting?

it. It really doesn't matter for Y2J at this point and we are all getting a random dream match that tbh nobody knew they needed until the match was announced.

Only type of contract Jericho is under is a merchandise deal. Pretty sure he wouldn’t have his merch on wweshop still if that weren’t the case.

I’ve heard of Jericho not exactly having a contract but being on retainer. Like he gets paid not to wrestle anywhere else. But maybe they told Jericho he could do New Japan to make up for not having NXT guys on his cruise. Like they felt they upset him on the cruise, so they wanted to make him happy on something else.

This story doesn't make any sense. Why would WWE allow one of their most beloved performers to work for the closest thing they have to competition? This is the WWE. They don't need the exposure.

I read Chris said that Vince put the kibosh on the cruise idea because Vince has a deep seeded hatred for cruises. Something about one person got food poisoning many years ago and now Vince doesn't trust them. So Chris asks Triple H if they would have a problem with using another company. And I believe Triple H said that'd be fine.
So While Jericho isn't technically with WWE, he went through the proper channels to make sure there was no hard feelings about the whole thing. And rumors are Chris will be most likely be back in WWE in time for WM.

I would love for Chris Jericho to defeat Kenny Omega for the NJPW United States Championship Title Belt. Then he could bring it to the WWE and challenge whoever the WWE United States Champion will be by the time the Royal Rumble comes around, and unify both United States Championship Title Belts.
USA!! USA!! USA!!

So why would he go after them but help NJPW?

WWE doesn't seem to want break out stats right now because a bigger star means the bran gets over shadowed and to WWE the brand is more important. NJPW also doesn't shy away from mentioning WWE, so they don't have to hide it. They treat the presentation more as sport with premier athletes than branded entertainment.

Chris Jericho has said on numerous occasions that even though he only does short term deals WWE he would never work for another company. In this case I am positive that Jericho would have gone to Vince and Triple H first before accepting anything that New Japan was proposing for him. I am also expecting Jericho to make an appearance or two for Ring of Honor leading to the cruise next year, once again this is something he probably got permission to do from Vince and Triple H. Jericho is now a WWE lifer and I can't see him doing anything to jeopardize his position with the WWE.

USA!! USA!! I don't know if this is sarcastic but it's a terrible idea. Its his gimmick, he's obsessed with title belts. And yeah i agree, terrible, something both parties would never agree to, but most likely he's joking to feed his belt fetish
