So I was just thinking about this... what do you guys think makes for a more desired figure? An iconic event attire or a promotional photo that was used everywhere but may not have really been seen on tv? Ultimate Warrior and Macho Man come to mind when I think of this question. They both had promo photos that were EVERYWHERE when I was younger yet were maybe used at a Superstars taping at best, yet those attires stand out to me. Then you have the attires that may have been a part of a famous match, yet were never seen again.
What do you guys think?

For me, its attire choice, but can also come down to accessories. I have bought extra of a figure because of a cloth shirt (elite Giant), I have bought extra because of belts( elite Big Show), hell, I have bought extra figures because of tables and ladders.

It probably depends on a case by case basis. In most cases, I'd say the promo photo attires are more desirable for me, because it felt like you saw them everywhere - magazines, wrestling figures, trading cards, etc. Where the one-off special event attires I very rarely saw more than once.
I only saw 2 PPV's live as a kid, so I largely relied on renting tapes from the local video store. But they had almost no WWF tapes from the early-mid 90's, but a ton of WCW videos available. So some Sting one-off attires I would love to own, since I watched those matches countless times. On the other hand, I literally had no idea the Bret Hart orange trim attire existed until a couple years ago, even though I watched a ton of WWF around that time.
I'd probably buy the figures either way, but if given my pick the promo photo attires have a stronger place in my memory. I can't believe we haven't had an Elite neon green Warrior. Even to this day those promo photos are THE definitive look shown for him.

Rarely used attires. My current favorite is seth rollins. My biggest wants are his kingslayer gold and deadpool attires, and i NEEDED the white attire for sooooo long.
I feel like they put more into the one off attires or the rarely used ones compared to the week in and week out same old stuff.

I’m a flashback only collector so the headsculpt resemblance is the most important thing for me. Being an iconic attire is a not so distant second (In the case of macho man..to me all his attires are desired, so that ones a bad example). Having cloth clothes and/or new belts is another factor for me and to a lesser extent also being packaged wearing/holding any accessories is a huge bonus.

For me, its VAC belts. If it comes with a belt, its an automatic need/purchase. Certain accessories, also. Like, I needed The List of Jericho. I will need The List of KO. Miz microphone is a need. Certain attires can also peak my interest. White Ranger Rollins comes to mind. Demon Balor, etc.

I think Warrior is a special case, because that promotional photo in green was also the basis of his first Hasbro.
For me, I go for the attire that resonates most. Case in point, I nearly wore out my copy of SummerSlam '92 as a kid, so I went with that as my Warrior pick.

For me it just has to be a wrestler I like. But then there are also special attires I want for them. Like GAB ‘90 Sting or RR’00 Triple H are/were my most wanted attires of wrestlers I buy all versions of.

I just mostly buy certain wrestlers I like Balor,Rollins,AJ,HHH and Sting I'll buy any attire of theirs but for other wrestlers I might pick up the attire they worn when I seen them at a event I attended or a special match that I really enjoyed so really I have no sudden reason just mostly buy what I like.

1- Good likeness. This is key. If it doesn't look like them, IDC what they come with or what event it's from, if it looks bad, no thanks.
2- Stuff. Once it looks good, I like it to have things, but only RELEVANT accessories. I know that's hard sometimes, some wrestlers didn't really carry much here and there. But it's a BIG selling point to me.
3- Specific attire. Sometimes this doesn't mean much to me, like Piper who usually had the same stuff, but it's cool if we get something really specific. It's not the biggest thing to me, but it's a fun addition.

Wrestler, attire and accessories. As a flashback guy I want older stars, when one comes out like say the warlord Andrew in his iconic attire with all the accessories it’s a must buy.
