Black Friday has come and gone and with it we got new stuff! Have you had to return any of it though?
I had to return two video games. One to Target and one to Best Buy. In both cases the boxes sounded like rattles. Meaning one of two things. Either the discs came off their holders of the discs were broken into pieces. In either case I wasn't going to open the boxes and find out so I returned them for exchanges.
At Target the girl was friendly and understanding. At Best Buy though I had a young man trying to tell me Boy Rays do not scratch. I told him a scratch would be the best case scenario and that I was worried the disc might be shattered. He brushed this off by telling me the box would make a louder rattle. I got the exchange I wanted but it made me think.
First, why try to discredit a customer? And second, how much money will stores lose to similar returns.
Thoughts?

If they are like the places in my city, those items will be back on the shelf before you can exit the store. To them unopened means no proof anything is wrong.

They expect a good number of black sales to be returned
So many impulse buys, it’s inevitable

When I used to work in retail generally employees would only discredit customers to make less work for themselves. Based solely on my own experiences, managers and employees alike really only care about what the higher ups in corporate want as opposed to helping customers.

I bought some used games from GameStop and ended up returning them a few days later. I realized I wasn’t going to play them and it was just an impulse buy on my part because I went to the store with my fiancée and her brother.
