If a figure is going to become hard to find at retail or which figures would be highly sought after?
For example, when E48 cactus came out initially it was very popular and doubling in price on the resale market but now it is widely available for less than retail. On the other hand E47A aj styles was VERY hard to find at retail and still goes for quite a bit MOC. Also Nakamuras first figure was in the DM line, a widely available line of WWE mattel figures and yet people were still having troubles finding it at retail. It seems like i have always been able to find figures at retail eventually but nowadays it is very questionable whether im going to see any new figures at retail so i have been buying from RSC more than ever (which i am not mad about lol). My question is how do we as collectors know when a figure is going to be harder to find then others?

I don’t think there’s a way to know for sure. But look at case breakdowns and also often the first time in the line figures go pretty fast.

There are exceptions of course, but this is a pretty good start.

Yea my problem a lot of times is buying a figure then regret buying it later because i dont want it or realize if i would have held out i could have gotten it a lot cheaper
Now im getting must haves only and waiting on everything else. I feel like if i didnt "need" to have it now then chances are I'll be happy i didnt buy it later lol

I can make an educated guess fairly accurately.

Most of the time it's there first elite which everyone wants, like AJ Styles everyone wanted it so there was a lot of demand. Even Corbin was hard to find in the UK but yet both there second elites are quite easy.

The question isn't "how do you know" so much as "who the hell cares?" Like, get what you're into. I usually wait a bit for Amazon Warehouse Deals, but if it's a wrestler I'm super into, I usually just pull the trigger off the bat when I find it. If I wasn't willing to buy it on site, did I really want it THAT bad? Probably not, and then I'll wait for discounts.

My bad I thought he had a second one out, but when he does it should be easier to find than his first

Styles and Nakamura had and still have a lot of hype around them. especially with their first time in the lines. people freaked out when they were shown at comic con, so sometimes you can tell. Demon Balors are always very popular. like some said, new releases tend to be easier to find. dont go out of your way buying new versions of guys like miz, ambrose, sheamus since they will never be that different comparing to their older versions and their price will drop over time. Cactus was a very popular RSE that many people missed out on, but once Mattel rereleased it, the people who really wanted him, got him, and now he warms. these figures are mass produced, you just need to think if there's going to be high demand for something or not.
i would even say retail is a different game than online. wrestlers like cena, reigns, lesnar sell alot at retail, but nobody gives about there figures that much online most of the time

Hype, it brings out the two extreme ends of the spectrum, the people who buy too much, and the people who pay too much, and the casual collector in between is left thinking, "What a bunch a bologna.".
A debut, or highly detailed figure of a relevant character will usually draw a lot.
