Hey guys, finished 4 rounds of draft, resuming tommarow with the friends. I have 1st pick i took A-rod, Abreau,Bay, Rollins. Its now 5th round my pick starting off tommarow, I need to start my pitching staff. Do i take trust closer Mariano Rivera or Carlos Zambrano, Rich Harden or Ben Sheets?
By the way the class is pretty dominatly yankee fans, Damon went last pick first round, Posada 1st pick 2nd round, Jetter 4th overall. Will they forget about Mo by the time i get double picks in the 6th/7 round?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

no, they wont. Odds are Mo will be gone the first round you start. If you think you'll be weak in other positions, which i doubt, seeing as everyones taking yankees so early, then take mo and trade him for 2 good players. If you arent worried about being weak somewhere, id take harden...

Let all the Yankee fans grab all the Yankees, because you can grab the better players and in more quantity. Yes Rivera is the best closer but who would you rather have Rivera/Chad Orvella/Wickman type or Wagner/Ryan. Let all the homers get their guys and go with Harden

Im not directing it towards you guys but why is everyone very high on Rich Harden? I heard somewhere he has some past injury history.

He has a big injury history but so doenst Zambrano and Sheets...on pure talent its Harden...if you want an Ace who probably wont break down but will get hit alot and has a so so bullpen go with Sheets, if you want a guy who Dusty Baker BURIES into the ground, but usually wins a lot go with Zambrano....who else is out there?

Every closer and
Prior, Randy Johnson,Carlos Zambrano, Rich Harden, Ben Sheets, Felix Hernandez, Pettitte, Buehrle, Brett Myers, Smoltz, Brandon webb
Everybody is left except the big guys like Santana,Pedro,Carpenter,Peavy,Oswalt,Halladay, Dontrelle, Colon,Clemens,Hudson and Schilling.
The only reason i was thinkin closer was maybe id get people pickin closers but it could backfire u know?

As much as I hate RJ, hes probably your best right now. Here is how I would rank these guys, and if u wanna know why just ask
1. RJ 2. Harden 3. Felix Hernandez 4. Smoltz 5. Sheets 6. Bueherle 7. Zambrano 8. Prior 9. Pettite 10. Webb 11. Myers
You need starters, so go starter, starter, closer then see whos left. I might even move Bueherle up on the list and whoever took Clemens is dumb in your league. Same with taking Schilling so early

Why do people feel the need to only go after players on their favorite team? (Not directed at any of you guys)
I'm a Yankee fan. I just had my draft a few days ago and I have TWO Yankee players on my team...

Some people are homers, I was kinda a homer last year going with Renteria/Schilling/Ortiz, Ortiz worked out great...the other 2 not so much. I always look for guys on the Sox. I also dont pick Yankee players, I made an exception with Rivera one year and Matsui because I had no choice. If it came down to Schilling and Prior, id take Prior or King Felix.

I can understand wanting to take a couple of guys from your team. I do it also. My issue is with people who stack their team with players from only one club...

Well unless you got the 27 Yankees on your team it wont work out, I find it easier to follow my team when I got guys from the Sox on it...then again, makes it tougher to cut them when they suck cock...aka Renteria last year and Schilling

Of course it won't work out.....Then these people have the balls to complain when their team blows and wonder why they're in last place in the league...

You can load up with guys later on from your team, I mean if you need a catcher in the 7th round...grab Posada, not the 2nd round thats a joke. Jeter 4th pick? 4th round MAYBE....Damon should be within the first 5 rounds...only Yankees and Red Sox that should be in the first 2 rounds:
Manny, Ortiz Rivera, ARod
and Rivera shouldnt even be there, too early for closers

Rivera is probably the best closer in fantasy baseball, but at what cost? If someone wants to take him in the first round, let them... because guys like Huston Street, Bob Wickman, and Bobby Jenks will probably go later, and provide similar fantasy numbers.
Also, watch out for some sleeper closers: Chad Orvella, Chris Ray, Eric Gagne will probably slip a bit, Keith Foulke shouldn't be among the top closers, eventhough he could give you that production. Chris Reitsma is another good gamble to take.

"Fly by night" Closer is a key...guys who take over midseason and get you as many saves as the Wickmans and Turnbows....both examples of fly by night. Jose Valverde is another example, Foulke struggles...Timlin....Rivera goes down....Farnsworth....closers are the easiest to replace so going overboard in the first few rounds is silly...they are like kickers

Well today came and went. I decied why not go with Rivera, surely enough people followed taking closers, When it came back to me i drafted Sheets and Zambrano. Harden went 2 picks before me. I also got travis hafner, ryan howard, matt holliday, Jorge Cantu.

Good work listening to us, but it seems like you have some geniuses in your league if you still wind up with Sheets Zambrano and Hafner after all that
