So just as the title says, basically. What I want to do is use an extra Retro Lesnar and see I'd I could dye the torso brown to make my custom Ahmed Johnson? I'm using an old Ahmed head from a '96 figure that looks a little cartoony but would fit the old "Hasbro style"
If anyone has had experience with this, I'd appreciate any advice just so I don't waste my time. Thanks!

Customizers used to use shoe polish to dye lower legs for Snuka customs years ago. Never heard of anyone dying pieces of plastic.

I think the real problem is the type of plastic. The limbs are a softer plastic - ones that would likely take dye. The harder ABS plastic of the torso, crotch, and joints/discs/pegs will not take it very well, if at all.

I see. Ok, the last thing I wanted to do was buy the stuff, make a big production out of it, then it doesn't even work. Since I'm going to a dark glossy brown, I was even thinking perhaps a good undercoat paint/primer then a careful spray paint of the brown..?
The big thing is, I hate brush painting skin tones. Even the good ones give it an amateur look.

Even the good ones give it an amateur look. I hate brushing skintones too, but I have never found a spraypaint (outside of Duplicolor Vinyl) that works on figures. Some might say they found some, but I haven't - especially in useful colors. I DO NOT recommend using spray paint on your figures. It does not cure, especially on hard plastics. Because of this, I eventually bought a compressor and an airbrush. TOTALLY worth it. I still use Duplicolor for many of my base coats but they do not have a large selection of colors, including brown, so you won't be able to go that route. |

I meant an acrylic aerosol to avoid the brush strokes being visible. Just out of curiosity, what kind of colors would base coats offer me if I purchased a compressor and airbrush? And how much scratch did that cost you? Thanks again. |
