What I’ve always done is heated up water in a mug in my microwave for a minute and a half, stood them in it making sure whatever area I want to work on is covered and let it sit for about 45 - 60 seconds and I gently bend the joint or I use my teeth to push the pin through enough for it to bend apart. It’s pretty easy then to slide the knee pad on and replace the joints with very very little to no damage done to the paint or the figure itself. With my AJ I used either the top or bottom pin depending on the design so I didn’t mess that up too much. Goooooood luck though.

It’s very annoying and difficult. But ya know...if they actually included them to begin with we wouldn’t have this issue.... It seems like they are starting to add the kneepads on the BASIC figures, but not the Elite figures yet, except they TRU exclusive DID have kneepads, but the Elite 56 which came out WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY after did not, for some reason. Mattel makes no sense.

I've heard horror stories about putting the kickpads back on, E47 especially! I'd love some feedback on this, before i go to the trouble. I heat up a cup of water in the microwave for 2 minutes. Then I hold the figure into the water up to the top of the boot. I try not to hold the knee joints in the water. After about a minute, the boot should come off without too much trouble. Afterwards, I put the boot in the cup for another minute to keep it pliable while I put the figure in the freezer for a minute to help harden the peg. Then I pop the boot back on the figure. When I'm finished, I put the figure in the freezer again for a couple minutes to harden the boot again. Then I let it air dry for a day or two. I've done this with RVD. His joints are all still pretty tight.

Use a blow dryer to heat up your figures, never use water. It’s messy and unnecessary. I usually take apart the legs around the knee area, above the kick pad ‘band’ and it’s way easier.
