Are we all agreed that The Simpsons ultimately wins? Up to about season 10.

Are we all agreed that The Simpsons ultimately wins? Not in the least, and I say that as someone who used to schedule his average day around the double header syndication run on the local Fox outlet. With 2019 just around the corner, it's perfectly fair to say that the show has officially been not great longer than it had been great. A near thirty year run is fine if you don't lose steam a third of way through. At this point, the damn thing's a ghost train.

The early years of The Simpsons are quite possibly the best TV ever.

I can't think of a single show that hasn't lost steam if not completely nosedived once it's been around for a decade or more. Hell, most shows lose whatever mojo they had by the fifth season. You have to know when to call it a day rather than continue slogging on just going through the motions. It's particularly difficult if you're not going to have your characters change or even age (like South Park or the Simpsons). I started watching The Simpsons before it was even a show - back when it was just a segment on the Tracey Ullman Show. I can't even tell you when I stopped watching it because it has been that damn long now.

The early years of The Simpsons are quite possibly the best TV ever. I have this weird, borderline hypocritical deficiency where I tend to let extended stretches of bad programming (read: The Simpsons for the past ~10 years) sour my overall outlook of the product in a way that something like a bad album or a bad cover or even a bad sequel won't sully my overall adoration of an artist, song, or film. If I had to guess, it's probably due, in large part, to the overall lack of television I tend to consume. The Simpsons, in particular, stings in a way that's sort of unique because for what little television I do watch, I tend to be pretty damn forgiving compared to viewers of the same product. For example - I'm unable to cite any personal flaws against The Office (US). I don't care that Kevin became Flanderized. I don't think the program's appeal dipped at all when Michael left. I liked Deangelo. I liked Robert California. I liked seasons eight and nine. I liked Nelly Bertram. I mean, I guess I have nuanced flaws I could call out - I hate Michael and Holly together, and #SorryNotSorry, but Karen > Pam - but I think that's just overall preference. This is all, really, a long winded way of saying that if you asked me to name my favorite program of all time, it's probably gonna be the US version of The Office, and it's not even close. Suck it, Groening.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. But seriously... So, I really, really make a concerted effort to not let a fanbase put me off of anything ('cause god knows I could just an easily be lumped in with some unsavory types by virtue of the things I like), but having never watched R&M but having encountered a large sample size of their fanbase, I don't know that I ever want to start. That McDonald's meme sauce debacle was the most ostracizing thing I can imagine. Here we are, a year later, unpersuaded by any recent showings of R&M, and I'm able to walk into both McDonald's local to my office and grab a ten piece with two packs of that stuff without hassle. Way to look like a buncha asses over nothing, kids. No b*tching the next time someone harps on those damn millennials.

Have you ever seen Angela Kinsey's Instagram?

I love Rick and Morty, though on rewatching them from the start I'd say the first 4 episodes of season 1 really aren't great. Season 2 and 3 are incredible though.
As for the fan base.....urgh. Don't.
Same for Adventure Time. Alongside Twin Peaks, Adventure Time is my favourite TV show of all time, and yet if I so much as dipped a toe into any kind of forum populated by fans of the show I'd probably swallow my own f*cking tongue.

I actually watched the first episode of Rick and Morty and was like, 'eh'. I came back months later and gave it another shot. It does get a lot better after the first few episodes. I forgot about Adventure Time. It's a show that genuinely makes me feel good to watch. Great show.

I was perusing the News Archives and noticed a huge gap from July 2011 to Dec 2016. Can anybody remind me what happened to the missing years?
