I came across this clip on Youtube, it is a segment from Sportscenter where Joe Rogan and a Boxing promoter go back and forth comparing the sports.
I'm not sure if this topic has been made before around here, and if it has I apologize, but I think we could get some discussion going on this.
I think Joe came off better in the debate, as it seemed Joe had a good counterpoint to almost everything the promoter said, and the promoter would jump to a different subject and compare MMA to cockfighting and pitbull fighting.
I personally agree with Joe that boxing is a limited form of fighting, as opposed to UFC that is so much more dynamic. That part of the appeal to MMA is that there are so many ways a fight can go that you really have no idea what will happen, as opposed to boxing where it's two guys just standing there with oversized gloves punching each other and that's it.
Was UFC at one time a barbaric, no holds barred, extreme competition and not a sport? Yes it was, I'll give you that the early UFC's were just that, however the sport of MMA has evolved so much since then and it hardly resembles what it used to be, and it's not fair to people like Dana White and the Fertitta's who have busted their asses to change that image to call it "human cockfighting" when these athletes are not being forced to do this.
Not that my little mini-rant is out of the way, it's time for you guys to weigh-in with your opinions.

MMA easy, Boxings Golden age finished about 10 years ago and I cant imagine them comming back into the limelight anytime soon. MMA is the future.

MMA.. anyone who compares MMA to cockfighting, dogfighting, or anything like that is just plain ignorant.. these fighters train in a wide range of martial arts and it takes a lot of skill to master arts like judo, sambo, and brazilian JJ..not to add that prob all of them also train in boxing.. there is simply no comparison.

Question is which do you prefer not which is better. Matter of opinion and taste either way. I like both but I prefer boxing.

I'm a big fan of both but one thing draws me away from boxing and that is the fact that the top guys always seem to avoid each other.
I want to see the best guys fight each other and thats what happens in the UFC but it's getting rarer by the day in Boxing.

MMA is better but if boxing had a true heavyweight warrior like tyson in his prime then boxing is better.

I don't like either. But I give the slight edge to boxing, because it's the sport that would keep me more interested if I had to watch it.
