Sorry if this is in the wrong place or not really worth it's own thread, but I was looking for some outside opinions;
I live in a pretty small house, and a few months ago I became a Dad. Turns out these kid things need their own living space and as a result I have to make some cuts. Two large areas in my house are taken up by my DVD collections and CD collections. In particular, I have (probably) a couple of hundred WWE DVD's spanning '98 to the present day, and honestly, when you get into the nitty gritty and start watching some of the midcard stuff in the Ruthless Aggression era... eh, it's not the most exciting watch
Honestly I don't really wanna get rid of them as most of them have at least something of value on them, plus there's always a chance I'll have a resurgence of interest in them. The solution I'm toying with at the minute is buying a big CD wallet and getting rid of the cases (and maybe storing the paper sleeves somewhere incase I ever wanna recase them). Has anyone ever done this with CD's or DVD's? Were you glad you did it or?

I have an almost complete run of Dragonball Z on DVD. It took up several shelves. Then I did what you mentioned: put all the CDs in one big ass wallet that holds 'em all and threw away the cases. Still have my complete DBZ collection but it takes up one large book sized space on the shelf now. Best of both worlds.

I'm quite precious about my CD's so I doubt I'd ever do that with them, same with my Blu Rays, but these in particular aren't overly sentimental to me (aside from a few older ones) Do you regret it at all?

The cases and inserts are partly what sets them aside from digital releases. Please find a way to save them, as so many ended up discarded over the years, so no telling how many completes are still around.

Whoops, little typo. I meant I put the DBZ DVDs in one big ass wallet... but you get the point. Don't regret it all. The inserts didn't have any info on them that I considered essential to the enjoyment of the DVDs but I did keep them stacked in the bottom of a drawer somewhere. For the record, I have over a 1,000 music CDs and I would not do the same for them. Too much good info on the liner notes to not keep them together plus CD cases are much smaller than DVD cases. I never quite understood why but that's the way the industry went with packaging.

Digital just doesn't cut it. At worst I'm hoping to keep the sleeves so at least I have the option of putting them back together at a later date

I was the same at 1 point. But now I've only kept the very best. All the original WWF ppv's 99-01. Or WM15-late 2001. All the WWF specials releases too and of course the current era especially 2016-to present as I'm an NXT mark. I used to have old wrestling dvds before my time and those ppv boxes from the ruthless aggression era and honestly don't miss them 1 bit.
On the other hand I must have around 2 full shelves of all my alternative music CD's pop-punk/metal/skate anthems which I would never part with, as they always give me that nostalgia of playing NFS on the PS2 or watching American Pie.
It's up to you mate but I would much rather part with the dvds as at the end of the day it's all on the WWE Network.
I usually sell my stuff in CeX but you probably won't get that much for them.

I did the binder and sleeve thing with my regular dvds a few years ago. I threw all of the cases away. Everything fits into two giant binders in the corner of our wall unit (#noragrets!). I'm about to hit the same issue with my blu-ray's. I have a giant square unit thing in our bedroom for just blu-ray's but it's busting at the seams. The irony of the entire deal is I barely pull movies out and watch them anymore. I just watch whatever is on Amazon, Netflix, or my digital copies on iTunes. So my blu-rays are headed down the same path. I have to be really in the mood for something to get it off the shelf.
I did keep all of my wrestling DVDs in their cases. They're in a couple of plastic bins in storage under our stairs. My hope is that one day my son will want to watch some of it, and he'll find the nostalgia of it cool. Most of it isn't worth anything on eBay and I still like looking at the box art. That being said, I'll likely always have the Network and he's being raised on digital content. So it's probably a lost cause.
If you can spare the space in the garage or attic, put the discs in binders and put the cases in tubs in storage. That way if you get into a bigger place down the road you can put them all on the shelf. Sort of a compromise to the whole situation. Also, if you store them and realize you don't miss them after awhile, you can always just get rid of them.
I never kept CD cases and I've moved almost exclusively to spotify for music. I always put the CD and insert into a binder and kept the whole thing in my car. I still have my CD binder but it's on a shelf in our garage. I was using limewire and had an iPod when I was still in high school. So outside of vinyl, which I love, I've been moving away from physical music for more than 15 years. The adjustment for movies has just started to become comfortable for me over the last couple of years and it's still slow going. I still want the physical/digital copy together when new movies are released. Especially the way the movie rights change with mergers and the way content comes and goes off of streaming services.

I still collect vinyl, but outside of that and some old wrestling vhs, all my physical media has gone the way of the dodo.

I refuse to go digital. Nothing about digital media is better than physical media. I love purchasing a disc and knowing that it’s mine indefinitely, and not having to worry about a studio or streaming service altering it or removing it altogether.

I have a pretty large vinyl collection. Also have about 200 CDs that made it through my last big move (I had close to 500 or maybe more, but some just got left behind).

On the other hand my brother has an overflowing collection of DVD's and Blu-Rays. He has a cabinet full of them, a closet full, and a shelf with multiple rows of movies on each tier. He has to have over 2,000 movies
