I know this probably sounds silly but who else uses video games to pick which figures to buy and the era they fit in? I was using WWF Warzone/Attitude and then WWE '13 for the attitude era and All Stars for the golden age. Now I have begun to use WWE Champions. Anyone else do this?

The closest i can relate to this, is being extremely happy seeing that the Elite 1 CM Punk was in his SVR 2010 attire.
I would've bought the figure regardless but it was neat that he was in one of my favourite attires.
EDIT: I just remembered i really wanted a DA or RA figure of Jeff Hardy in his SVR 2009 trailer attire. If they made a figure in that attire, then yes a video game would've helped me pick a figure.

Well Fire Pro Wrestling has inspired me to grow an expansive wrestling roster in figure form. Other games that I like to reflect on while building my collection is WCW vs the World, WWF Wrestlefest (love the idea of Legion of Doom being bosses), etc. Interesting topic as this has always been one of my motivations to collect figures.

I’d love to have elites of everyone in WWE 2K14. That was one of the best rosters and since it was Wrestlemania themed there were a lot of really colorful attires. The main ones missing in my mind are
Wrestlemania 22 Edge Lita & Foley
Wrestlemania 3 Liz
Wrestlemania 18 Hogan Jericho & Steph
HBK (19, 23, 24, 26)
Goldberg
Wrestlemania 2000 HHH
Bret Hart (9, 13)

IDK if I really understand the question 100% BUT, Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy are kind of my “go tos” for the main Attitude Era roster (for Mattel figs). I loved those two games growing up and faithfully watched wwF at that time so it’s mainly for nostalgic reasons. That’s why I was stoked to get the HOC Undertaker.

I don't use video games as an influence for a purchase but I have made displays based on WWF Raw and WWF Royal Rumble. WWF Royal Rumble roster is almost complete, we just need Crush and we will have the SNES and Genesis rosters complete. WWF Raw still needs Luna and Owen which I'm sure neither one of those will happen.

Not really with figures, but I guess I can kind of relate in a way with the video games back in the day inspiring me to go back and watch matches with the wrestler wearing the attires they wore in the game, or even to find any figure I could with that attire.
We are spoiled now, but it always irked me that whenever you had a guy that always wore something different ever week, like Kurt Angle, Shawn Michaels, Mysterio, etc, that you were always stuck with the one attire that they chose to put in the game... for a whole year. Man, I got so sick of that stupid plain red Angle singlet with the A. The stupid gold Mysterio attire. HBK with the same damn tights, or nWo attire in SYM, over and over and over again. To this day, I can still probably name the game just by looking at the attire!
I played the hell out of the PS2 games. That is all that I played for so long. WWE games got me into video games, not the other way around! I first got a PS2 just for Just Bring It!! I remember being amazed how much cooler it was over No Mercy when I first saw it at a friend's house. Updated roster, commentary, full entrances, season mode...

I did, to an extent. Back when I first started collecting and becoming a wrestling fan in 1998, I had WarZone and wanted figures of the guys in that game. So I got the Wrestlemania XIV box set with Shawn, Austin, Undertaker, and HHH. Eventually I also got Rocky Maivia from the WMXIV series and the older Slammers series Faarooq, Bret Hart, and Goldust. That was like half the video game roster, haha.

I've wanted a complete WWF Raw roster (SNES) for years and years and we've never had one company make a complete run of the roster. We at least got the Royal Rumble roster completed with Hasbros. Not something I ever expect to complete with Mattel because of Owen. Luna doesn't seem particularly likely either.
