I first started collecting Mattel figures around Elite 7, the set with DX HBK and Triple H. I was amazed at how much better they were compared to my Jakks figures and dumped them at a local hobby shop, CashNCulture. It was the beginning of a huge addiction. My wife wasn’t so pleased to say the least but she really didn’t mind in all honesty. I ended up gathering a huge collection of over 200 figures ranging from all of the Mattel Lines, basic, elites etc. Here’s a small view of my precious collection. Sadly we fell on extremely hard times between fixing the foundation of our house, to redoing the plumbing because of collapsed pipes and other things that seemed to happen one after another. By the time I started working on the electrical wiring in our living room I had to make a hard decision and sell off my collection. It wasn’t because of collecting that we were in trouble because we had the funds, I just felt it was time to part ways and finish all of household duties. So that was it, they were gone and I miss them, but life happens and sometimes you do what you have to do. I ended up going back to school and got my associates degree in Electrical and now work for US Steel as a maintenance Electrician and I could t be happier. I kind of started collecting again, but this time I’m not getting too crazy. I’m mostly collecting legends and a few current roster guys and this is what I have so far. Starting all over again isn’t the end, but a new beginning and different chapter of a Figure Addict. Hope you enjoyed the read.

Welcome back
I have major home upgrades ahead of me too but selling my collection isn’t gonna really help make that happen. I’ll probably keep them forever and maybe sell off a piece here or there as I’m less attached

Welcome back I have major home upgrades ahead of me too but selling my collection isn’t gonna really help make that happen. I’ll probably keep them forever and maybe sell off a piece here or there as I’m less attached I was offered over 2 grand at the time and it really helped with wire and fixture cost, as well as put some back in the savings. It was something felt was more important and made the decision. I’m happy with it!

No disrespect but I went straight to admiring your collection. I may stop to read your post later...but I’ll probably just admire your collection again.
*edit*
You have Ken Shamrock. You’re a good dude.

Hopefully you can now get your figure collection together again and wont have to sell in the future. I'm not able to add anything to my collection for the next 18 months while I pay off my car. It sucks, I can understand why you have to sell, its just great you're back in the game! Good luck!

Congrats on rebuilding your collection, and making solid financial decisions. I love my hobbies, but at the end of the day it's just a hobby. When you spend long enough in collectibles, you see and hear crazy stories. People racking up huge credit card debt, having relationships and marriages fall apart because collecting or spending gets out of control, etc. Glad to hear you ended up in a good place and still get to enjoy figures.

My brother, I can understand better than most what you went through... forum.wrestlingfigs.com/thread/328308/dgnr8s-farewell-collection-massive-updateAt one time, many years ago, I was the proud owner of one of the largest collections (if not THE largest) of wrestling toys and memorabilia in the world. I had surpassed the legendary Tim Ash in the end, and my collection was appraised for over $150,000 in retail value alone. It isn't an easy decision to make, but sometimes it's a necessary one that allows us to grow as people. However, like all passions in life, if this hobby is something you truly love, you'll eventually find your way back. I reluctantly did, and now my collection is focused on Jakks BCA-era and Mattel figures that fit between 1990 - 2003. It's leaner, but it's meaner. Happy hunting, my friend!

I'm sure your experiences make you value your current collection ever more. I'm glad you have returned to the joy of being a collector.
