I wish they would crowdfund wrestlers!

I wish they would crowdfund wrestlers! Typically, I think people tilt toward larger scale items when the idea of crowdfunding arises, but paired with the constant back and forth on this board over how to get some of the more obscure names into production in a manner that's beneficial to collectors and company alike, I feel like this would be right on the nose. I've got no need/room for the larger scale items that would typically be associated with this, but with selective options, I could absolutely see myself kicking in for a limited run figure. Mattel: I've got your first deposit on a newly tooled Haystacks Calhoun Elite right here.

I’d do:
-Interview stage with alternate suited Mean Gene -Brother Love show with Brother Love -Piper’s Pit with Black shirt Piper (jean jacket maybe) -Classic entrance curtain with Sean Mooney -In Your House entrance with classic ref -Classic broadcast set with Ventura and alternate Heenan -Nitro broadcast set with Bischoff -1992 neon entrance with lights -WCW silver entrance curtain and ramp with Surfer Sting -ECW arena eagle’s nest area with Raven

I’d love a wcw nitro entrance stage.
I’d also go for a brother love show playset if we get brother love.

Not into this at all. What happens if they don’t have enough backers? Do they just cancel it? Yep. It's basically a good-faith pre-order. I dunno if you've ever contributed to a KickStarter campaign, but it's very much in the same vein, except that in this case, only backers are able to reap the final benefit. In the event that it doesn't get funded and doesn't go into production, it basically goes back to zero, and all the pre-orders are cancelled, so it's not a situation where Mattel can take the money and run, so to speak.

Not into it at all. So basically get your hopes up, wait to see if they make the quota, if not it gets canceled, if so you wait for years to get your item? Yeah no thanks.

If it's handled properly, I've found it to be a typically positive endeavor. Granted, most of my crowdfunding contributions have been toward smaller scale bands looking to cut new records, but the ones that I've backed have always been pretty well updated, so that between the time the project meets its funding goal and the time the final product is delivered, you have a pretty fun little thing to follow. Hasbro recently delivered on a crowdfunded project with their Jabba's Sail Barge playset, and it seems to have been received pretty unanimously well. I didn't go in on that, but damned if the thing isn't huge - I'm talking G.I. Joe aircraft carrier huge. If Mattel did this and it was something I wanted, I'd definitely go in, as you quite literally have nothing of any value to lose.

I’ve said this 100 times. I’ll make it 101, collectors here complain about a $26.99 figure. Thats stage would be over $200. MattyCollector failed because wrestling figure collectors are cheap. However, a subscription kit may work with monthly payments of like $50.

Besides, isn’t Mattel’s WWE stock backed up right now? I’m more concerned with wtf happened to NXT Basic 3 and Wendi Richter more than I am with big playsets. I think they could easily do something like the Jakks TTL playset. It may not be grand but it would be a lot more affordable and easy to get ahold of.

My only complaint thus far is that, unless I'm missing something, I can't see any progress for this particular example as far as how many orders they have thus far.

Tbh if they wanted this Crowdfunding venture to be successful, I wouldn’t have started with Cars. My little brother collects them, the third movie toys barely hit retail. They had a wave before the movie and a supposed “wave” the fall after. The fall wave never hit retail anywhere here in Ohio. The store shelves are still crammed with Lightening McQueen (he’s literally worse than any shelfwarming Cena lol). I heard the Star Wars one was decent. Maybe Mattel should have started with a WWE Crowdfunding to see if it would work. Cars just seems like a random “we aren’t really even trying” experiment.

Take your above average WWE collector, multiply their enthusiasm and their willingness to spend a hundred times over, and then just start slapping the Disney scrawl on anything you can find and see how they come running. Top it all off with the fact that Disney nuts loooove them their luxury collectible lines (such as The Precision Series) and the fact that this set was previewed back in the fall as the 11th of 13 prospective sets before the line was suddenly cancelled and then maybe uncancelled...I'd be massively surprised to see this one fail. I liken this to Hasbro doing something similar with the Orange Card series. It's not even a particularly stellar group of names, but the fact that the line could have been and then suddenly wasn't basically strapped a rocket to the back of their desirability. I have no doubt that Mattel knew exactly what they were doing here.

People have been begging for a referee for a while. Figured Joey would probably be the person easiest to get under a legends deal since his family is in good standing with WWE and Gorilla apparently has a deal. Bundle Joey with someone else niche and he’d sell.

Crowdfunding from a huge corporation always irks me. I have always seen crowd sourcing as a way to help out the little guy. Mattel doesn't fit that description.
