I guess not completely confirmed until he announces something publicly but one of my best friends, Jeff (whom a bunch of you probably recognize as the guy who cuts...let’s call them “heel promos”...at WWE fan panels at SDCC and other things) is at Double or Nothing. He just ran into Bill and asked about the elite NXT Itami figure (which is a figure he’s literally been dying for since Itami arrived) and Bill told him it was indeed cancelled and that that whole wave probably won’t see release as it stood. I guess this was definitely a possibility but we weren’t really sure how far along into production it was. Anyhow, womp womp. Haven’t been as active on here lately so if this was already announced, apologies in advance.
5/26 UPDATE:New proto pics of Series 5 have emerged (click the spoiler tags below). According to Bill Miekina on Instagram, Hideo Itami is not coming out. As of now, the wave will consist of three figures including Andrade "Cien" Almas, Roderick Strong, and Titus O'Neil. with the latest wave selling so well I would find it hard to believe that target and or mattel would cancel the line going forward but stranger things have happened. maybe they need to just revisit and figure out a way to do a target exclusive line that works for all parties, because so far they have all failed unfortunately and as an outsider i dont know whos to blame for that.

Disappointing but not surprising. I really wanted that Andrade. Hopefully they can make him a future collectors edition or something.

I was really looking forward to the Elite Titus, Almas, & Strong. Hopefully they find other waves to get them out in. Especially Almas.

Good God. It's been a year almost. Just give us the Roddy and Almas figures already. This is actually good news to me. I never spotted 1 figure from wave 4 of nxt.

Not surprising, since there have been a grand total of 4 waves released going back to mid 2017. Mattel's inability to sustain these sub lines is almost impressive. They always seem to manage to find one or two figures that back up retail and kill the entire line.

I never expected this series to be released. As much as I love seeing new product at conventions and trade shows I kinda wish Mattel wouldn’t show off anything until orders have been placed and the figures are all but guaranteed to show up in stores. Seems to be a lot more disappointment recently with figures shown but never getting released.

Sucks 'cause I really wanted that Itami. Foregone conclusion though.
Andrade can probably be fit into the regular line now with him on the main roster, better chance to get him anyway.
The best for Roddy Strong would likely be as a Target exclusive, sadly.
Titus, whatevs from me but feel for the others who wanted it.

I feel like half the figures they show us end up getting cancelled.
I think we all knew Itami wasn’t going to happen. Andrade might find a spot in the main Elite line. I don’t care about Titus, honestly. I want a Roderick figure but this would make his second figure that won’t be seeing the light of day.
On top of that, I’m still hoping for the Walgreens Elite Naomi, Paige and Nattie that are also probably cancelled.
And then when we get new figures in the line, they are impossible-to-find store Exclusives. It’s really making me want to give up with Mattel.

I could have misunderstood him but it kind of sounded like he was told that Itami’s departure is what sunk the wave. I guess they literally could no longer release his figure and didn’t have another to move into the slot. Again, the conversation was brief and obviously second hand but that was my understanding of it?
Maybe Bill will clarify at some point.

First off, a set featuring Andrade, Strong, Apollo, and Itami sounds like literally the drizzling sharts. It's the figure set equivalent of a rest hold. You think Roman and Rusev warmed? If this set had gone to retail, those pegs would have been so hot you'd have needed safety gear to get near them.
Second, you can blame Target like 90% over this. They give absolutely no hugs about their toy department. The only reason they have the department at all is because it's "what big boxes do", and they have to keep up with Walmart and Amazon.
Why else do you think virtually every wave of virtually every toy line uses the same number? Set it-and-forget it.
Does Mattel shoulder a little blame? Sure, the other 10% is Mattel's fault. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to release Roman in tiny shorts and shower time Rusev. But I guess those guys usually sell pretty well when they're not wearing porn star gear.
