It looks like they both have their strengths.
The cloth jacket and attire on the DM is better
The head's likeness and scale of the Ultimate is better. Why's the DM so scrawny?

The DM has the better looking attire, but the UE looks like it is the better figure. This.

They're both great, but I honestly think I'd prefer some mashup of the UE arms and jacket, the RSC KOTR exclusive attire, with customized thinner glasses and the UE smirking scan with the hair trimmed.

DM Bret is by far the best version. I was hoping the new Ultimate Edition figures were more like the old Defining Moments.
I prefer cloth over these plastic removable parts that they have now.

The ultimate has a very small appeal. That line in general has very little appeal. Starting a new collection this far in ( especially given the track record of abrupt stops to sub-lines) is not reasonable. Had these just been elites with 3 heads, multiple hands, deluxe accessories I would buy them... Well I would've bought Bret and Warrior. It's just not a solid line with the off pairings and subtle miscues. So you could have put this up against any Bret figure (elite) and I would've choose the elite. My defenses are up, as well as my blinders. Mattel has really lost the stranglehold on my wallet and genuinely is leaving my active interests. I miss Artie in the Jackie chair. Xoxo 😘

DM Bret Hart is the best figure of Mattel Ehhh slow down there... the figure that has skinny legs, no knee pads, sub par face & a jacket that looks a bit baggy? Best Mattel ever, really? Not saying the ultimate is perfect. It has flaws too. But feels like people are being generous with giving the DM benefit of the doubt.

I would love to own a DM Bret, but those eBay prices (I just looked and the cheapest Buy It Now price is like $70 with the added shipping) keep making me not want to buy. I’ve been able to get some gems for low, but nothing for DM Bret whatsoever. I lowkey feel forced to buy the Ultimate Bret because of this to finally add him to my collection

I have and love the DM Bret but def feel people are too hard on the ultimate Bret. The attire and splatter are awesome, the jacket details great and the scans tho imperfect (like all of Bret’s for some reason) have some greatness to em

Without having the Ultimate yet, I can say that the head sculpt on all the interchangeable heads, and added arm articulation (plus the inclusion of knee pads) works in its favor. The attire choice, I prefer the DM version since Bret in all black looks awesome. But the head sculpt on all the Bret figures thus far hasn't done it for me. Gonna have to wait to get the Ultimate in hand before I compare.

My vote goes to Ultimate. Both are great, but I like the attire better on the UE, and even with armpit holes I’ll take the detailed plastic jacket 100 out of 100 times over the bulky, ill-fitting “leather” cloth one.

UE for the articulations. DM for the aesthetics.

Same goes with Undertaker and Sting and their coats.

If the UE drops in price I will pick it up but at the moment I am perfectly happy with the DM...with added knee pads of course

I menat to say we are gtting a singles Anvil that will round out the 1997 group. BUT....It's Neidhart in singles attire. it'll do for 1997 HF since there'll never be an Owen to use him with in for a NG setting.

If they slapped a HF jacket on him it would be pretty close as the main difference is the logo on the singlet. Sadly no jacket

UE headscans and hair are somehow a step backwards.
