Notes before you begin: This thread is not your ordinary "Collection" thread. While I could have taken the easy road and made it a mindless, textless thread full of thousands of images for your viewing pleasure, I decided to take a different approach.
I have been an action figure collector virtually my entire life. As an art collector considers his paintings and sculptures works of art, I feel the same way about my action figures. While I surely do play around with them occasionally, I view the action figure as the perfect piece of pop culture memoribillia. While some collect posters, and autographs of their favorite entertainers/movie stars, I always felt that the best representation of my likes was in a three dimensional form.
This thread is a view into my collection, piece by piece. While I don't have enough time, or energy to break down every single figure I own, I decided to construct a Top 40 list. The list was originally 20, and slowly evolved into 40, to make sure I included my very favorite pieces.
This is not a list of the "greatest" or "best" action figures of all time. While I do have a lot of figures, I certainly haven't had nearly enough to judge them on an "All-Time" basis.
I like to think that there is a little something for everyone in this list. If you like movies, you'll probably enjoy this the most. If you like comic books, you will get a view of my ever growing new baby, my comic character collection. Video games? I have those covered. Wrestling? Three years ago, I think I could have pleased you wrestling fans more, but there is a little bit of wrestling. And of course, Sports.
Now that I have the ground rules covered: On with the list.[/size]

~The Brian J. Dinan Collection~
40. McFarlane's Sportspicks NHL Series 9 "Joe Sakic"
![](http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/6141/406fd.jpg)
Price: 9.99 + Tax
Purchased at: GameStop
Accessories: Ice Base, Hockey Stick, Hockey Puck(not pictured)
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Regular(White Jersey) Version
Notes: I have many McFarlane Sportspicks, collecting mostly Yankees, Avalanche, and Raiders players. The NHL 9 Joe Sakic figure stands out as one of my favorite hockey figures. Not only is the pose very fitting for the man with one of the most wicked wrist shots in NHL history, but the equipment is very accurate, and the facial likeness is so good, it is scary.
39. McFarlane's Motley Crue: Shout At The Devil "Vince Neil"
![](http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/537/394ss.jpg)
Price: 39.99 + Shipping(in a boxed set)
Purchased at: www.amazon.com
Accessories: Microphone with stand
Packaging: Window Box
Variant: Not Applicable
Notes: McFarlane's recent music figures have been nothing short of stunning. While this Vince Neil figure came in a boxed set with the three other members of Motley Crue, I decided to take Vince out seperately, as he is my favorite figure of the set. McFarlane did a great job capturing the era in which they decided to depict Vince. Vince stands out the most, as the other three figures are mostly black, Vince features a lot of red. TMP did an outstanding job with the tattoos, makeup, and other small details that makes this an amazing action figure.
38. SOTA Toys Street Fighter Round 1 "Sagat"
![](http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/7351/389dk.jpg)
Price: 49.99 + Shipping(included in a five figure set)
Purchased at: www.EBAY LINK NOT ALLOWED
Accessories: Two alternate hands, and an alternate head
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Regular blue/yellow shorts version
Notes: It would be a tough vote, but SOTA Toys' Street Fighter Action Figure series may get my vote for line of the year in 2005. I originally fell in love with these seeing other people's pictures of them on various forums, and decided one day that they were a must have. Sagat is one of my favorites from the line. The first thing you notice about the Sagat figure is that he is menacing in size, yet he still manages to keep all of the articulation SOTA decided to allow for this particular line.
37. Toy Biz' Marvel Legends Series VI: "Wolverine"
![](http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/7958/379be.jpg)
Price: 8.99 + Shipping(purchased with two other figures as well)
Purchased at: www.EBAY LINK NOT ALLOWED
Accessories: Wall Mountable Base, 32 page comic book
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Not Applicable
Notes: Marvel Legends is another line I got into in 2005, and I mostly have WF member KAM to thank. Wolverine is one of my favorite superheroes, and naturally one of my favorite action figures. He brings back memories of the old Toy Biz Wolverine with the removable mask, and retractable claws. While I have the ML III Blue/Yellow costume Wolverine(Thanks Ross), I prefer this one simply because I always favored Logan's brown costume.
36. McFarlanes Sportspicks NHL Legends Series 2 "Wayne Gretzky 5"
![](http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/5423/364nd.jpg)
Price: 6.00 + Shipping(purchased with one other figure)
Purchased at:
Accessories: Ice Base
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Regular White(home) Jersey Version
Notes: McFarlane released a plague of Wayne Gretzky figures upon us in the past year plus. However, that doesn't mean that the figures are bad, because most of them are not. Particularly this one. While Wayne Gretzky is an Oiler, I grew up watching him in LA Kings silver and black, and will likely remember him like that for the rest of my life. This is one of the better hockey sportspicks, and most definately one of the best sportspick poses to date.
35. McFarlane Toys' Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty "Revolver Ocelot"
![](http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/38/356bp.jpg)
Price: 9.99 + tax
Purchased at: GameStop
Accessories: Two "Colt Single Action Army" revolvers, a piece to Metal Gear Ray
Packaging: Blister Card
Variant: Not Applicable
Notes: The Metal Gear Solid 2 series basically opened my eyes up to video game figures, and in my opinion there should be more. There are so many colorful and memorable video game characters that haven't been properly represented in plastic. Revolver is my second favorite figure from the MGS2 line, and McFarlane did the character great justice..
34. Mezco's "The Warriors": "Swan"
![](http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/1707/348ym.jpg)
Price: 69.99(Purchased as part of a five figure set)
Purchased at: www.toynk.com
Accessories: Switchblade, Knife, Pipe, Spray Paint
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Bloody
Notes: Mezco really surprised me with this line. Not usually a fan of their work, I stumbled upon The Warriors action figures one night online and fell in love with them. Naturally, as a fan of the movie, I am a big fan of these figures The Swan figure is one of the best in the set, capturing Michael Beck's face in a cartoony fashion. While I usually prefer realistic action figures, I think Mezco took the right approach on these, and captured the movie nicely.
33. NECA's Sin City Series 1: "That Yellow Bastard"
![](http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/9238/339lu.jpg)
Price: 129.99(Purchased in a case)
Purchased at: www.toynk.com
Accessories: Knife, whip, syringe
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Grinning
Notes: As most of you know, I have an awful lot of Sin City figures. I fell behind a bit, but with a collection that is rather full, Yellow Bastard stands out in any crowd. Why? Because he is bright yellow! While every other figure in the series thusfar has a black and white variant(unless you want to count Goldie and Wendy as two different figures.) Yellow Bastard only comes in Yellow, featuring facial variations. I prefer the grinning variant over the serious face, as I feel it captures the emotion of the character much better. Usually crap all over due to the fact he can be had for wooden nickels online(because he doesn't have plastic tits), Yellow Bastard is one of my favorite Sin City figures.
32. McFarlanes Sportspicks MLB Series 12 "David Ortiz"
![](http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/285/328wl.jpg)
Price: 5$ Plus Shipping
Purchased at:
Accessories: Batters box base, baseball bat
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: White(home) Uniform regular
Notes: It is no secret that I as a Yankee fan dislike David Ortiz, and the whole Red Sox organization, but to not recognize the work TMP did on this figure would be a joke. While he is not one of my favorite players, David Ortiz is one of the nicest sculpted Sportspicks to date, facially and pose wise. He stands out in any sportspicks collection, and is a great example of the improvements TMP has made since grabbing the Sportspicks licenses.
31. SOTA Toys Street Fighter Round 2 "Ken"
![](http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/652/314tt.jpg)
Price: 34.99 plus shipping(As part of a five figure set)
Purchased at: www.EBAY LINK NOT ALLOWED
Accessories: Two alternate hands, alternate head, Flaming hand attachment
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Red suit regular version
Notes: Ken is one of my favorite Street Fighter figures. Some may ask "Why not Ryu?" Well for one, I am soured on the amount of money I spent on Ryu, while he is an inferior figure to Ken at around four times the cost. Sure, I like the Ryu figure, but I feel SOTA improved somewhere between series 1 and 2. The series 2 figures look nicer facially, and feature brighter colors. Ken is simply a more fun character than the boring Ryu.
30. McFarlanes Sportspicks NBA Series 8 "Shaquille O'Neal 2"
![](http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/5847/306dv.jpg)
Price: 10.00 plus shipping
Purchased at:
Accessories: Basketball court base, support pole, detachable rim, basketball
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Red Jersey regular version
Notes: Much like the Ortiz situation, I HATE Basketball. However, I love this figure. I felt that this was one of TMP's best sportspicks works since starting the line, and I would be a fool to be without it. Featured in his red Miami Heat jersey, Shaq looks incredible posed with the McFarlane collectors club backboard. The only way to improve upon this figure is if there was an Orlando Magic version, unfortunately there isn't.
29. McFarlane Toys' Matrix Series 1 "Twin 1 and Twin 2"
![](http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/5055/293rq.jpg)
Price: 25.00 plus shipping(for the set)
Purchased at:
Accessories: Connectable bases, Gun, switchblade
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Not Applicable
Notes: Some are a little higher on the Matrix "Twin" figures for the simple fact that they are the rarest figures in the series. While I think they are nice, they are not the nicest in the series. The Twins fetch upwards of 25$ a piece now, and were once a very hot commodity. I was lucky enough to find a kind member on the Spawn forums to sell them to me at a fair price to add to my personal collection. I included them as one in the same, as the differences are not great enough to set them apart.
28. McFarlanes Sportspicks NHL Series 6 "Patrick Roy"
![](http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/6709/283dh.jpg)
Price: 14.99 plus shipping
Purchased at: www.spawn.com
Accessories: Ice base, hockey puck, hockey net, water bottle, stick
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Maroon "Home" Jersey Chase Figures
Notes: Patrick Roy is my favorite athlete ever, and this figure does him the best justice in my opinion out of any of his others. While he had a figure in an earlier series, McFarlane stepped up their game since, and created this figure. This is the main variant version, featuring the home maroon jersey. I also have the regular version in his white road jersey, but lack the alternate "C O L O R A D O" version, which runs several hundred dollars on the bay, and I'm not that crazy.(yet)
27. Toy Biz' Marvel Legends Series I "Iron Man"
![](http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/4299/276wx.jpg)
Price: Purchased with three other figures for 50.00$ delivered
Purchased at: A Fellow WF member
Accessories: Wall mountable base, removable mask, 32 page comic book
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Regular paint application
Notes: Iron Man is another one of my favorite Marvel Legends, and I got a great deal on him while buying him loose. Iron Man features a removable mask, and his face features Stark's trademark mustache. While there have been many variations of Iron Man created in the Marvel Legends line, this one stands alone as my only "must have."
26. NECA Cult Classics Series 1 "Jason Voorhees"
![](http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/5317/264an.jpg)
Price: 29.99 plus shipping(As part of a set of four)
Purchased at: www.EBAY LINK NOT ALLOWED
Accessories: A forest base, axe, machete, harpoon, and a removable mask
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Not applicable
Notes: Jason is a character that has had many action figures by many different companies. I only own this and McFarlane's Movie Maniacs version, and greatly prefer this one. While I feel current McFarlane could definately do Jason more justice, this figure just captures Jason perfectly. His tattered rags, his weapons, his grimey skin, everything a Friday the 13th fan could ask for in a Jason action figure.
25. McFarlane Toys' Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty: "Solid Snake"
![](http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/5424/snake29zo.jpg)
Price: 9.99 plus tax
Purchased at: GameStop
Accessories: Hand gun, Assault rifle, piece to Metal Gear Ray
Packaging: Basic Blister Card
Variant: Not Applicable
Notes: Solid Snake is the second MGS2 figure that has made it to the countdown, and my favorite from the series. I always loved this figure since the day I got it, and it was actually one of the figures I most frequently played with(if you had it, you would too.) A perfect representation of one of my favorite video game heroes. Its a shame there were no 6" Metal Gear Solid 3 figures.
24. McFarlanes Sportspicks NHL Legends Series 1 "Wayne Gretzky 2"
![](http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/7460/244ax.jpg)
Price: 7$ plus shipping
Purchased at:
Accessories: Hockey stick, ice base
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Not Applicable
Notes: Another Gretzky, another Kings Gretzky. I don't know what it is, but McFarlane seemed to up the ante everytime they needed to make a Kings Gretzky figure, while the Oiler figures are boring. I love figures that commemorate one moment in history. This figure commemorates Wayne's record breaking goal in 1989, as he surpassed Gordie Howe on the all time goals list.
23. SOTA Toys Street Fighter Round 3 "Balrog"
![](http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/5364/230vp.jpg)
Price: 9.99 plus shipping
Purchased at: www.EBAY LINK NOT ALLOWED
Accessories: Two alternate hands, and an alternate head
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Basic Blue/white regular variation
Notes: I like this figure for a few reasons: One, because its a very well done representation of the Street Fighter Balrog character, and two because it is the closest thing to a Mike Tyson figure we'll probably ever see. Balrog is one of my favorite Street Fighter figures, and he definately stands out in the bunch. SOTA did this character great justice with an amazing figure.
22. Mezco Toyz' "The Warriors" "Luther"
![](http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/2176/220lw.jpg)
Price: 69.99 plus shipping(as part of a set)
Purchased at: www.toynk.com
Accessories: Hand gun, three beer bottles(see the movie), broken bottle
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Not Applicable
Notes: Luther is an all time favorite villain of mine, and one of the best Warriors figures in the set. I feel they captured a comical style of David Patrick Kelly's snickering, grinning face perfectly. While some dislike cartoony figures, I like the stylization on these, and it works exceptionally well for Luther. The accessories add a lot to the figure as well, see the movie if you don't know what I mean.
21. NECA's Sin City Series 2 "Shellie"
![](http://img66.imageshack.us/img66/349/215ec.jpg)
Price: 119.99 plus shipping(as part of a set)
Purchased at: www.toynk.com
Accessories: A clear plastic stand, two beer bottles, a butcher knife
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Black and white
Notes: The Sin City Shellie action figure is dripping with sex. Wearing nothing but a bra, panties, high heels, and a man's dress shirt, NECA captured the sexiness of Brittany Murphy's character very well. While some dislike the facial likeness, I find it to be pretty darn accurate. I also think Shellie is one of the nicer sculpted Sin City figures of the series.
40. McFarlane's Sportspicks NHL Series 9 "Joe Sakic"
![](http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/6141/406fd.jpg)

Price: 7$ plus shipping
Purchased at:
Accessories: Hockey stick, ice base
Packaging: Basic Clamshell
Variant: Not Applicable
Notes: Another Gretzky, another Kings Gretzky. I don't know what it is, but McFarlane seemed to up the ante everytime they needed to make a Kings Gretzky figure, while the Oiler figures are boring. I love figures that commemorate one moment in history. This figure commemorates Wayne's record breaking goal in 1989, as he surpassed Gordie Howe on the all time goals list.
23. SOTA Toys Street Fighter Round 3 "Balrog"
