I have always been a MOC collector but space is becoming an issue. I am considering maybe selling off some of my duplicate figures or opening them for starters. Everytime I put aside a few to open, I can't bring myself to do it. I think loose displays look amazing but I hate that figures lose most of their value once opened. I don't collect for value but some of the older figures, knowing their worth hurts to open them. But I'm not getting much enjoyment from them in storage. What do you think? Have you gone through a similar struggle?

If you have duplicates I would consider opening them. The only loose elites I have are ones I also have MOC. But as a fellow MOC collector I can’t recommend sizing down the MOC collection.

I was MOMC and MIMB for years and years and then one day I just started opening everything as I had an apartment at the time and room was a BIG issue. These days I can't believe I use to stress about dings and dents in boxes meant to be opened. Loose is the way to go in my opinion.

why not sell the moc ones and buy them loose? you'll have extra money and will still have all the same figs

That's the logic. But the logic is wrong. Aftermarket prices have gone up lately. I haven't been tracking those prices, so you likely know better than I do. I do know from selling on secondary markets in the past that the margin of return would have to be pretty great to make it worthwhile. Shipping a MOC figure isn't cheap, and there are other fees upward of 10% that cut into profits.
All of this is to say, if you want to open them, do it. I've never regretted it because I've never had an intention to sell (although there are always a handful of exceptions, early DMs, SES RSC Punk, etc.)

I'm a MOC/Loose collector. My rules are if they're current I open them, all my Legends stay in their plastic hell.

Its crazy.

I’ve thought about opening my moc collection so many times ... especially after seeing some of the loose displays from other members of this board ... but I just can’t bring myself to open almost 700 MOMC figures and lose all of that value.
Granted, I never collected nor do I collect now for value or resale ... but IF I ever decided to sell them all, then I’d look back and be like ... fml THAT was a dumba$$ indea to open all of these 🤦🏼♂️
I also have the fear of opening an expensive moc one now after all this time and it be broken ... like say a leg breaks off or something along those lines ... because THEN I’ve completely destroyed something valueable and also have zero use for it.
The money that I’ve spent on buying mint cards is also the last reason as to why I can’t bring myself to do it.
I mean I’m not going to play with them, if I opened them up anyways ... so why take the value away from them if they’re STILL going to sit there, it just kinda defeats the purpose for me.
I’d say that if you want to play with them, then go ahead and open them up ... if they’re just going to be displayed and you’d regret losing the value at some point, then leave them all MOC.
However, if you want them loose, but want to sell them all to buy loose from someone else and probably still have some cash left over, then I’d look into going down that route.
I hope that you make the best decision, brother 🤘🏻😎

only figures i keep MOC are Ringside exclusives, other random exclusives (SDCC Macho, 'Taker), and my Mattel Series 1 set of basics with the 1/1000 belts
theres no real point in keeping so many figures MOC, but if you must....pick out your favorites. favorite superstars, favorite figures...etc, and keep those. then the rest LET 'EM BREATHE

The great debate! MOC collector here and only open a limited few that I want to display.
