Seriously, why is Mattel still using ratchet hip joints? The stupid spreadsheet excuse?
I just opened my Rick Rude and Matt Riddle figures and both there legs feel like they will fall off at any moment. Mattel needs to stop cheapening out and use ball jointed hips for all Elites.
Anyone know if there’s anything I can do to try and loosen their legs up? A lot of heat? Every time I try to turn them it’s like the legs are going to rip the ratchet joints off.

First the ratchet hips probably cost more than the ball-joints because they have the extra articulated piece in the hips. So I wouldn’t call that “cheapening out” I would say stop using the less effective design. And yes it would be the same technique we’ve been doing since 2010. Heat the hips for a couple minutes. Then when the glue is softened in them move their legs in all directions (forward, outwards & backwards) a few times. Then either put them in an outwards split or seated position and leave them in that position for 24 hours. And they should be fine afterwards. If not repeat the process and they’ll be fine. I did that with every Legends figure they released and all were fine after the first try.

100% agree with this. Ball joints are just amazing in every way, but Im sure there’s more to it we don’t know

As we’ve seen with recent elite waves they been finding ways to “cheapen out” with figures to save money. No more torso hair on AJ Styles. Jeff Hardy using the tank-top mold. If the ratchet joints cost a significant amount more than ball joints Mattel would have retired it. As it is they haven’t so if anything at this point the cost is likely almost even at worst. Don’t like the word cheap? Cool we can use lazy then but in the end it’s Mattel putting out an inferior product when we know they have an alternative that offers far more quality.
