So, I need a spare set of hooks to connect my ring ropes to my ring post. I bought these clasps pictured below, and the size is pretty good, but the chain doesn't hold. Any suggestions?

You need to find a heftier chain. I would recommend a 5 millimeter or 6 millimeter chain as it’s strong, but small enough that you figures can hold it or mimic the look of holding it if you’re into photography or pic feds. Also I would recommend finding an S-Hook from a home improvement store/site instead of a J clip.. J clips are meant for necklaces and aren’t supposed to hold weight beyond a chain and pendants. PM me for help.

Small screw eyes & hooks drilled into wooden dowels.
