I better take my 6 year olds legends, SDCC exclusives and flashbacks off him since they’re not aimed at him then. Next time he sees a bright and colourful warrior or rick rude on a shelf in a shop I’ll tell him he needs the plain black deco shinsuke or plain attired drew because they’re current figures aimed at him even though they’re far less appealing to him I never said kids shouldn't have them, I never said you couldn't buy them for your kids. I said that the target audience for figures like the legends are the older collectors...which is true. Paul Orndorff based on WrestleMania 1 isn't a figure that's designed to get kids to buy them, it's designed to get older fans to spend money. This isn't hard to figure out. Also so I’m clear on the rules I presume he should t be playing any games with Mario in since that’s an old character aimed at adults now who were kids in 80s? ...this is maybe the most idiotic thing I've ever seen you post and that's covering a LOT of ground. Mario is, much liek Disney, targeted at both the parents AND their children. It's not the same ing thing, and you're trying to run with something that I never said because you like to make really stupid, obtuse arguments. Actually try reading and comprehending my post before responding with insane logic like this. I’m not the one saying a Toy in a Toy isle is aimed at adults whereas there is a separate collectibles area of the store And saying an 8 or 16 bit game with graphs far less modern to today is the same as saying an old wrestler should be marketed to an older person

The Legends line isn't aimed at kids. It's aimed at older collectors. Then why is in the kids aisle at Target? Why isn't online only or next to the NECA figures? The kids aisle is in the electronics. They don't play with toys anymore. lmao

Mattel is legitimately going full Jakks (since the “R” word is offensive). Short bangs, on the third release of the same figure no less... really? I love you... I guess. I wish Mattel loved us as much as we love it.

If I was not a fan of undertaker and Kane I would have never bought both of these superstars' figures they have produced. Only good undertakers are both DM and Kane is suffering from alot of malnutrition issues.

Mattel will never go "full JAKKS" - but after ten years, they know what they can and can't get away with. They're not online only because that's not part of Mattel's business model and they're not nedt to the NECA toys because the WWE stuff is always together on the planogram. The $30 UE figures that are also aimed at collector's are in the kid's section with the rest of the WWE stuff too. Doesn't mean it's not a collector focused line. Star Wars: The Black Series is a collector focused line, it's in the kid's section. I better take my 6 year olds legends, SDCC exclusives and flashbacks off him since they’re not aimed at him then. Next time he sees a bright and colourful warrior or rick rude on a shelf in a shop I’ll tell him he needs the plain black deco shinsuke or plain attired drew because they’re current figures aimed at him even though they’re far less appealing to him Also so I’m clear on the rules I presume he should t be playing any games with Mario in since that’s an old character aimed at adults now who were kids in 80s? Difference is, although the Mario character originated in the 80's, he's still around today, in modern incarnations - and he has always been aimed at kids/families... Figures of men who last wrestled some twenty, thirty, or even forty years ago, are not. While we're on the subject, though, buying SDCC exclusives/legends for a 6 year old - who can in no way appreciate them, is pretty ing stupid, IMO. Also, don't forget to buy him those Paul Ellering, Volkoff and Mae Young figures he'll really want. Does he have Freddie Blassie and Superstar Billy Graham? I'm sure he's a HUGE fan of those two...

*pinches bridge of nose*
So, I see we're on this bullcrap topic again.
For the billionth time, the line...
Wait, you know what. NO. Not gonna do it. This argument is bad for my health.
Work it out for yourselves. If you don't like the figure, don't buy it. It isn't like this is the only deadman figure to choose from or even the only one of this era deadman figure to choose from. There's umpteen thousand classic 'Takers out there, pick a different one. It's that simple.

Why is it stupid and who are you to say he does t appreciate them? He appreciates the shark and Isaac yankem figure a lot, he often reaches for both of them first. Shark has had some great matches against earthquake in our house. Paul ellering he does actually like a lot but he doesn’t know the other two. There’s this thing you see called ‘WWE Network’ which shows not only current but, get this, OLD FOOTAGE! I know right, crazy! Who would’ve thought it? Now from watching that old footage, he knows who people like Paul ellering are. Guess what, when kids see characters on screen they want those same characters to play with. He even knows irs and that he is brays daddy, and the wild Samoan’s, headshrinkers and the ano’i legacy - amazing what sinks into their brains at a young age. Fortunately the wrestlers he has met, from nasty boys to Kevin Nash, tatanka, Booker t etc didn’t assume because he is young he has no idea who they are and talked to him about his favourite matches of theirs etc. They were not so condescending. You collect kids toys which is fine, many adults do.

It sucks that we're all obligated to buy the thing, whether or not we like how it came out. And as for kids? LOL. My five year old has figures of Matt Hardy, John Cena, Cody Rhodes, and Edge. He's dying for a Jeff Hardy. He doesn't know what wrestling is. He just likes playing with them because, like newgenandy said, they're colorful and appealing. He also likes that he has figures just like I do (all of his are hand me downs for when I got newer versions). Who GAF if he doesn't "appreciate" the talent's body of work? He's a kid. Kids play with toys. Jesus, some of you are cynical. I thought I was bad off.

I like how this thread’s title now applies less to the Undertaker figure OP was originally talking about, instead applying to the thread itself...
Like a few have said before, who really cares if the kid is familiar with the wrestler the figure represents? If they think it looks appealing, they’ll get their parents to buy it, and they’ll play with it, which in turn, means more money for Mattel, which is what they ultimately want. And, if the kid really likes the figure, it might get the kid interested in who the person is, and they’ll look into their body of work. And then a new fan is made.
When my older brother was 5 years old, he had very very very vague knowledge of Dragonball Z and who the characters were, but he still bought and played with the set of mini figures based off the series. Why? Because they looked cool to him. And that resulted in him pursuing an interest in the series, becoming a fan, and then sharing that same enjoyment he got with me once I was born. My brother is the main reason I’m a fan of things like WWE, Dragonball Z, and even games like Mario to this very day.

I hate pop funkos, but I remember walking into Target one day and found a Mask of the Phantasm Batman funko pop and I was immediately sold. I went on and got a few more such as Nightwing, Harley Quinn, and an unmasked Batman. I still don’t like Funko Pops and only have 8, but it’s cool that they have a pop for a lot of things that you would never see be made into an action figure or statue. I give them props for that.

Haha I was just talking about Undertaker’s short bangs. I had no intention of this leading to a war.
Call them kids toys... collectibles... for kids... for adults... for everyone.
IDGAF either way. I’m just making the point that the figure sucks and is one of many inexcusable things Mattel has done. I give them props when they do well. But, as this is a forum for discussion, I will point out the BS too.
Taker’s bangs (and the still lacking WM 14)
Taker and Kane getting laced boots for 10 yrs in spite of Mattel knowing this is a mistake since day one (yet they somehow fixed Sting’s DM after a wave already shipped)
Shawn Michaels getting his old man look on his younger figures... and let’s not forget those GOD AWFUL ultimate edition heads.
And how long were people waiting for WM 3 Macho Man DM only for them to paint the freaking trunks the wrong color?
Many many more...
Again, for all you Mattel apologists who get butthurt when anyone criticizes your beloved product, welcome to the real world. Dissenting opinions exist. Discuss, and if common ground is not found, agree to disagree and move on...
And don’t forget to LOOOOOOOOVE one another because I LOVE YOU!

LOL..."I didn't want this to lead to a war, but here's a smattering of insults at the people who disagreed with me". I mean, where are the insults? I didn’t take sides on the kids vs. adults argument. I padded a few more misses by Mattel and told everyone to tone down the butthurt over legitimate criticism. I’d hardly call that a “smattering of insults.” If you and/or anyone else takes it that way, then it actually proves you all are snowflakes. Now THAT can be argued as an insult. Then again, it’s not an insult if it’s true ::shrugs:: I love you.

For what its worth i Understand both side but I agree with you. Target has “toys” separate from the “toys” that are neca and horror guys etc. there are Star Wars pops there and other toys like stranger things and then those brands also have toys in the regular section. It’s silly that Bobby heenan in a weasel suit or old man warrior in a suit are with Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns because it’s 99% not the same consumer target (no pun intended)
