*Inside of the Old National Plaza Aiken Theatre in Evansville, Indiana, a crowd of a roughly estimated 1,500 in attendance murmurs about what exactly this whole thing is. Some people are obviously executives sitting front and center in suits and ties and pencil skirts with dress blouses, clipboards with legal pad and pens watching the stage intently. There’s a white board hooked up to a laptop that’s on a small table sitting next to a podium. The murmurs is quiet down now as a man walks to the podium in a navy suit with shoes reflecting the lights back toward the audience.*
“Hello, I’m Wesley Greene, executive at Channel 21 Sports. These past few months have been some kind of battle trying to maintain and promote a sports channel that before was on its way out the door. Our main goal is to bring entertainment that our audience wants. Entertainment you need after a long days work. The football games you want to see, the baseball games you wanna watch, and the wrestling you wanna be apart of. As a way to set ourselves apart from the competition, we decided to air wrestling. Before a industry that was predominantly on drama TV networks is now coming to the place it deserves to be, on the sports channel.
This is one step in the right direction to bring the wrestling industry into a new era, in the light it was always meant to be portrayed in, as a sport.
There is no secrets that no matter the tales you hear, regardless if true or false, about the wrestling business, the people who perform are some of the most athletically gifted individuals in sports or entertainment, so why not treat them as a sport?
That is our goal with our network, to show off real, true, raw athleticism the way it deserves to be.
With the help of people like Pepsi, who has sponsored this and endorsed this endeavor since it was a brain child, this business is going to become more lucrative than it ever has been before.
To explain more details, let me introduce the head booker and CEO of NAPW, Mark Shemwell.
*the crowd murmurs amongst each other kind of quietly now as some generic rock music plays and the man they now know as Mark Shemwell walks out to some of his loyal fan base in the upper rafters cheering and applauding for all he’s done. Wesley and Mark shake hands as Wesley exits the way Mark came in, as Mark takes to the podium.*
Hello everyone, I appreciate the support and I’m so glad to be here. I ran a promotion in Evansville that became a mid-south phenomenon just a few years ago. We were bringing in more than 87% of the people who were watching wrestling on TV were infact watching my product. I’ll forever be proud to have accomplished such a feat. Once I got a call from Wesley Greene in December of last year, I was really interested in being a owner of such a promotion. He told me the basics of what he wanted and believed I could provide a product that was different and had the connections to some of the best talent in the independent wrestling scene that it had to offer. So that’s what I did, I got the wrestlers I knew and felt were a good fit for the company and created a new atmosphere with different stakes and a different feel.
Older fans will feel some kind of nostalgia, even though we are NOT like how WWE was, and the new fans will enjoy the faces they follow come to a grander stage to showcase their attributes.
I’m here to announce the beginning, of NAPW, New Age Professional Wrestling. It will be debuting on Wednesday’s at 8PM, with a rating of PG-13 for its flagship show “Delirium”, airing once every 2 weeks.
*the crowd is kind of confused. A few murmurs arise before Mark can explain*
Yes, you heard me correctly. We will be running a show once every 2 weeks with a rerun airing the week after a show. This is to maximize the longevity of our wrestlers as well as give you a chance to breathe. This isn’t the old days where 4 days out of the week was wrestling, or a rough 9-10 hours of the week was consumed with wrestling. This is for the betterment of the wrestlers, the crew, and the fans. This gives the fans opportunities to watch their other sport interest without us having to sacrifice our ratings, to which I believe is a solid win-win for everyone involved.
Our PPV structure is going to be the time you may just get sick of us! After every 4th Delirium, the week that’s usually the off week will be the week we hold the PPV, airing on Saturday’s at 7PM, and the week after the PPV we have another Delirium, but then we’re right back to the one week off one week on schedule.
I know this is a lot of information coming your way, and I won’t take up to much more time, I just would like to finish this all in one fell swoop and let the information get absorbed by some of the most passionate people of the wrestling community, the fans.
So, for a brief run down, we have 2 complete original NAPW matches that will be intriguing to say the least. The first being Russian Roulette.
In a Russian Roulette match, there are 4 boxes suspended above the ring with 2-4 competitors competing in the ring. After each pin fall or submission, the wrestler has 45 seconds to select a box to be unlocked and climb the turnbuckles to reach their hand inside the box. Inside these boxes are shards of broken glass, barbed wire, tacks, and the prize they’re competing for. The wrestler won’t be able to see into the box, just put their hand in and hope it’s the box they want. If it’s not, they will be cut by glass, tacks, or barbed wire. The first person to pull the prize out of their chosen box is declared the winner. If they don’t get to the box or is knocked off the ropes or pulled down from them, the box is relocked until another pin fall or submission takes place and it’s selected.
The other is something called The Book of Destiny Tournament. The Book Of Destiny Tournament is a 16 man tournament taking place over the course of 2 weeks and culminating at the Progression PPV, the competitors in this tournament battle in a round robin until there are 2 left, and at Progression they will face eachother and whoever wins gets to roll out where I’m watching at ringside, with a big book with the dates of each show over the course of the next 2 years in it. The winner gets to place their name anywhere in the book. After the champion faces his scheduled opponent on that date, the Book Of Destiny winner will be granted their own match on the date they chose when they won. If the Book of Destiny winner is injured before the match, they forfeit their match. As an attraction that takes place once a year, it is possible for 2 people to have their names in The Book of Destiny for up to one year.
With all of this said, be on the look out for our commercials, as we should be coming to TV here in the foreseeable future.
Thank you guys for attending, and I appreciate everyone for listening, enjoy the city of Evansville as we bring a new dynamic to this great city once again.
*as Mark Shemwell exits the stage, the crowd murmurs amongst themselves about what this new company could entail and how it could be beneficial for all involved. The camera pans out to show the main level of the Aiken Theatre filled with standing silhouettes talking and whispering amongst themselves before fading to black, except a single link.
