This thought crossed my mind talking with a friend
The WMX8 PPV was more of a WCW Vs WWF then the actual invasion PPV
They might not have been able to wait, but imagine by then having Hogan, Hall, Nash, Flair, as well as Booker T, DDP, Mr. Perfect, Dustin Runnels, Kanyon, Buff Bagwell, Shane Helms, Lance Storm
That's a stacked WCW card.
It would have made sense to have WWF guys jump ship as well, Big Show, Regal, Saturn, Bischoff, Eddie, Benoit comes a few months later, which is still in the Invasion time frame Also Triple H is back too - RVD would be kicking around and not as ECW Fodder
The WMx8 is special, but I couldn't have even imagined if that was the first time they had WCV Invade, or at least on the road to it Mania and No way out was Invasion
This bums me if they just waited a few more months

I done some fantasy booking on a thread here a few years back where WM18 was where Vince had his final victory over WCW and the next night on Raw during his celebrations, Hogan, Hall, Nash & Bischoff turned up, beat the crap out of him and sprayed his back with the nWo colors. Giant & Waltman would join too.
Then you could have had guys like Booker, Flair & DDP joining in the fight against them because they hated the nWo too.

It just goes to show that Vince was more lucky than smart when it came to his company.
All the creative story lines us fans have come up with for that Invasion angle would have been every fans dream to see happen. Vince was too ego driven that WWF beat out WCW that he just didn't care to pay money for the bigger stars to come into the company earlier on.
I don't think anyone during Monday Night Wars thought to themselves, "Raven vs. William Regal is a match I want to see" over the likes of a Rock/Austin vs. Hogan/Nash/Hall combination.

also, as much as i loved the original ecw and it lead to the one night stand ppvs in some ways - keep ecw out of the invasion storyline pls. or at least bring it in as a final chapter.

The way I always saw it, ECW's involvement should have been the wildcard, not partnering up with WCW. Really, other than RVD and the Dudleyz, and myabe Rhyno, the ECW guys were just cannon fodder. I think they could have worked them in better as a wildcard, playing off ECW being the 'rebels' and really playing off both sides, working WCW and WWF against each other in attempt for their own gain.

Hands down if the vast majority of WCW's top talent didn't sit at home during what could have been one of the hottest periods in Wrestling History the entire Invasion would probably have led to the reformation of WCW under the WWF/E Banner.
Having guys like Flair, Hogan, Hall, Nash etc sitting on the sidelines for upwards of a year during that period left a huge hole in the potential storyline options.
How cool would it have been if Goldberg showed up the Raw after the final Nitro and started plowing his way through the WWF undercard on route to starting another streak? The nWo would have been great to have around with them causing chaos week in and week out. You could have had Ric Flair trying to recruit a new Horsemen group comprising of WCW and WWF talents to stop the nWo from taking over WWF/E just as a couple of quick examples

I would have loved the ECW involvement to been more like this. They threw the siding with WCW angle in far to quick. I feel like they wouldn't have been so cast aside in the whole thing if they'd have made more out of them, rather than ditching most of the guys after five minutes. The whole thing ended up digressing into WWF guys jumping ship and taking up the whole angle rather than them actually putting any effort into the "stars" of WCW and ECW. All ifs, buts and maybe's now, but the potential that they ed up was ridiculous.
