I felt like playing old smackdowns before the new one comes out, seeing as everyone loves HCTP for some reason, I thought i'd play.. I was quite surprised how immersive it is, agressive ai, AI goes for top rope and pins more and other stuff. I was Aean'o'Haire vs SGT Slaughter, bit of a squash match, but fun for opening match Then Val venis (me) vs brock lesnar. I've been spoilt by new smackdowns, because you can beat anyone with anyone. But this was was a near loss. in hell the AI is aggressive, he wouldn't leave me alone. I love how being a jobber you have to chip and chip away at stronger wrestlers in this, took me ages to get his body on yellow while I was orange and red. Reversed some of his f5's and reversed him trying to drag my body to pin my batterd carcass. I was on the edge of my seat, I felt like a little 11 year old again playing smackdown 1 jumpin when you score a win! If only new smackdowns had this...immersion

I know. HCTP was very fun, for its time.

HCTP and SVR06 are the two best games in the SD! series. I've played HCTP for four years, that game will never get old to me.

The reason I love HCTP is because of 1 person, Goldberg
His whole moveset is great, hell I went 3 straight seasons with him without losing 1 single match (officially)

HCTP is for sure the most immersive SD game. I liked DOR a lot more though, because just like what you said you need to earn your win, not just whore out on finishers and pin him.

I like it and all, but I dont see why everyone thinks its the best wrestling game since No Mercy. I liked SvR 06 better, and DoR I and II were miles better. With that being said, it is a pretty fun game, though.

HCTP was great for the season mode. Full control over your career, and I loved that. Sure it gets a bit boring after you've done all the storylines, but at least there's different paths you can go down, unlike recent SD games.

I wish the took that, combined the roster along with Smackdown Shut Your Mouth, it was the best because the season was 4 years and different storylines most of the time

Yeah, I played it again a month or so ago. While the game is amazing, the gameplay gets pretty boring pretty quickly. There's really no depth to it.

I loved the Season. I probably played through it like 10 times.

the only thing that grinds my gears is the fact there is no commentary

the only thing that grinds my gears is the fact there is no commentary Who needs commentary? It's never been executed properly in the games, anyway. And yes, HCTP was a fun game. Good Season Mode and a nice amount of backstage areas to choose from.

HCTP was great, probably my favorite wrestling game overall, DOR 1 and 2 would also contend though. (I've never played No Mercy)

I really like HCTP, still play it now and then. It has an awesome roster, the season is fun, and it was the first Smackdown game with legends in it. Sweet game overall

HCTP was a great game and arguably the best in the SD series. It was top notch especially for its time and was fantastic. Definately more immersive with the mentioned more aggressive AI.
I also like 'backtracking' in WWE games. Occasionally i might pull out SYM or HCTP or even KYR just to play and go back to how things were in that day. Its actually rather cool to do so i think.
