Any one know why these companies decided to announce their plans two years early...I mean that seems like far off. Why not wait till a few months before the contract is up?

I believe WWE made the announcement as part of their recent quarterly earnings report (and it seems to have helped boost their stock price), so it wasn't something that could have been kept under wraps. Though I agree, it's pointless to release this kind of info to consumers right now.

I'd guess because they signed the new contracts now.

... One year early, Isn't it? Doesn't Jakks contract expire in 09? End of, so still pretty much 2 years... Also, both companies are public, which means when a contract of this nature is signed, it has to be announced then... The reason Jakks announced the TNA deal is twofold... Jakks is public, and had to declare it, but also because they needed to save face with stock holders.

I know that Jakks probably just announced their TNA signing in spite of WWE announcing that they signed with Mattel.

The WWE announced first because I think they've had it with Jakks, and Jakks announced the TNA after that as a "in-your-face" kinda deal
