Honestly these days, referees are an act of their own. If you watch them, they personify exaggeration and being fake. They are comical to watch. If you switch your attention from the match to them for a few seconds you see how comical and useless they are.
Seriously, all that moving and pull backs from seeing pain basically makes them sell a move just as much as the recieving wrestler. If you watch as a move is executed they pull back and make facial expressions or they move around left right and centre, they sell a move just like the wrestler on the recieving end.
Also dont forget the 2 3/4 pins. Lucky they have the accuracy of a scientiffic calculator to know when to stop at that crucial 2 3/4 mark. They truly are histerical.
When they arent selling moves or making useless actions they are either enforcing the rules or standing around doing nothing trying to look useful.
Seriously, have you ever watched a referee for any period of time in a match to just see how much they sell and over exaggerate things? They are an act of their own!

Ref's are a vital part of a match, you might not know this, but they do a lot more than you would thing..rather than just selling moves and counting 3 numbers.
The best Referee ever (just to throw this out there) was in WCW, during a sting/scott hall match at one of the uncensored ppvs'

I know they do some instructing and so on but for the most part they are actually quite comical.

Oh, I know exactly what you mean. Go back and watch some WCW action from '96/'97 and you should see a referee named Mark Curtis a.k.a. Brian Hildebrand and his reactions during the matches were priceless. So were "Little Naitch" Charles Robinson.

Sometimes Referee selling can go too far...just ask Earl Hebner. He got fired for selling.

I love it when they jump and fall over the wrestlers to make the 3 count.

i've always loved that refs have the uncanny reflex ability to stop their hand 1/2 inch from the mat when someone kicks out at the last second. i try not to pay too much attention to them cuz if i start, then that's all i pay attention to the whole match.

What about the ones that somehow get knocked down and fly 3metres. Or those who just happen to conveniently not see whats going on although they are 'officials'.
