Don't call it a comeback, cuz I ain't back yet. But I'm working on it! First off, thx to everyone for all the continued support. It still amazes me to no end how much love I get from people I don't even know. I mean, I do feel I deserve it! LOL! But how often in life do we truly get what we deserve ya know? Anyway, thank you so much for all the MySpace messages, comments, emails, snail-mail, and gifts that I have received. It means so much, and meant even more during the passing of my mom! That was a really hard time for me, and at times, still is, but your support did help me tremendously at a time when I felt really "knocked on my ass!" So again, thank you all for that!
So . . . how is my recovery going? Well it's really hard to tell. I've never broken my neck before so I don't have any significant injury experience to really compare it to. I mean, I've had broken bones and what not, but dealing with spinal damage is a whole nother bag of tricks. Spinal damage really just f**ks everything up!! So Once again, KIDS, PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!!! However, I am back in the gym and training hard and I will continue to do so in order to make a return better than ever. An actual comeback date is not being discussed at the moment, as the WWE and I are both concerned more so with my recovery than my return. Wrestling is still my passion, but if I can't comeback at 100%, then I'm not sure that mentally I can bring myself to going out there in that ring and performing half-assed. It's just not in my nature. I've always given 100%, that's all I know how to do.
But the bright side is . . . that this gives me more time to come up with some new moves which I'm going to have to do as apparently "Saving the WWE" also meant doing my finish! Admittingly I didn't create this particular move but I had been "Breaking Codes" on WWE TV and PPV for around a year and a half, maybe more before my injury. That however, didn't bother me as much as seeing the Nightmare on Helms Street (Eye of The Hurricane) done once on both ECW and Smackdown. Now this is a move that I did personally create, so I was like, WTF? The body ain't even cold and these guys are rolling my ass! LOL! Phone calls were made after that. There used to be a code about doing the same finishes in the same company, I don't know what happened to that, but apparently it's out the doors these days. Is it really that hard to be creative and inventive? Where has all the creativity gone? Hell, at least when I brought the Shining Wizard to American, I modified it to make it my own and always gave credit to where I got it from, which is why that although my version of the Wizard is different, that I didn't change the name. The same thing with The VerteBreaker, a move that I, GREGORY HELMS, brought to American and made famous long before anyone else even thought about doing it. I got it from a different country, did it better, but always gave credit. I did have to change its original name though; cuz The VerteBreaker is the perfect name and description for that move! Btw, my version is still better!
So, what have I been doing with myself since I've been out? Well I've had the opportunity to do quite a few things that I wasn't able to do while on tour. I finally got to see my favorite boxer of all time, Evander Holyfield, fight live in person, down in El Paso, TX where as Santino would say, "He opened a can of the ass-whip" on Big Lou Savarese. It was awesome for me. It wasn't without a hitch though, as my boy, Christian was supposed to attend and help get me around since I was still in my neck brace at the time, but a last minute scheduling conflict messed that up, and I was almost forced to back out. But me, in all my genius, simply said, "F" it! I'm going! And there I went, driving around El Paso, with this huge neck brace on that just had to look comical! So if I cut anyone off in traffic while changing lanes, I'm sorry, I really couldn't see what the hell I was doing. My bad!
I then, got invited to see Holyfield fight in Moscow, but that was just too long a flight for me to take given my condition. He lost anyway, but I still woulda been there cheering him on! And boxing fans, a new name for you to look for is David Haye. Dude is good! But I'm more excited about seeing Calzaghe face Bernard Hopkins coming up. I think that I will bet against Hopkins for the first time ever. We'll see.
What next, lemme see, oh, I then got invited to attend UFC '77 in Cincinnati, OH where Anderson "The Spider" Silva beat the hell out of hometown boy Rich Franklin. It was a nice card, and attending a live UFC was really cool, but in terms of over-all action and excitement, they still got a little ways to go before they can catch up to the WWE! Anderson Silva is really dominating right now and I'm glad to see Liddell back to his winning ways, but I hated seeing Cro Cop not do well in his UFC-stint. And while on the UFC subject, I also think that once Brock gets a little more experience under his belt, he is going to be a total monster!! I honestly feel that if he could've just kept his fight with Mir standing up more, he would've done better, in my estimation anyway.
So then, the next day after the UFC, I went to see the Bengals take on the NY Jets in a pretty good game. Does anyone know that since the New York Jets play in New Jersey why they aren't just called the New Jersey Jets? It actually sounds better, just in my opinion though.
I also attended the San Diego Comic-Con in 2007 and man, that was IMPRESSIVE. If you get a chance, check that out!! I had a blast, met a lot of peeps, got a ton of FREE stuff (sometimes, being famous rules!) and really had just a great, great time. A nice little high-spot was when one of my friends, Mike Dougherty, whose name you may recognize as being a writer on the X-Men and Superman Returns movies, calls me up and tells me where he is located at the Con and to come find him quick! I go there to see two people dressed up as . . . . The Hurricane and Mighty Molly! Pretty cool!
Special thanks to DC for always taking care of me and the HUGE get-well box of books they sent me. Special thanks to Marvel for the sneak-peak that I personally got at the new Iron-Man armor for the upcoming movie of the same name. And also thanks to Dynamite Comics for their donation of books to my cause! If I missed anyone, it wasn't intentional! I appreciate everything!!! And I won't even go into hanging out with David Arquette and Paul Reubens! That was just too funny!
Anyway, that's it for now!
