Now I won't go as far as to say that without Sam Phillips Elvis never would have "made" it, but, there's a good chance without Sam Phillips his career would have been a lot different.

The title you are thinking of is King of Rock and Roll By signing these acts and producing them he birthed the revolution that was rock and roll. I can honestly only think of two famous people from Tacoma. Jerry Cantrell from Alice In Chains and Blair Underwood. Now if you drive north for 45 minutes to Seattle that's a different story...

I don't know how famous any of the local bands are, because I don't pay attention to them at all. The only one that I know is somewhat popular is Coheed and Cambria, though that's not really something to be proud of honestly.
