well i guess we can say that blue-ray was one of sony's few sucesses, actually beating out some other format. how about sonys other failures, like UMD and the minidisc player?

I was going to support blu ray regardless because of the playstation 3. Glad to hear toshiba backing out. Now I can buy all the movies I want on bluray and not worry about it being on hd dvd. Of course I have no intention on re-purchasing my standard dvd collection, but I will start buying blu ray dvd's that have heavy special effects. 300, Pirates of caribbean, gone in 60 seconds, the game plan, predator, and cloverfield will all be mine!!!

I thought HD would of put up more of a fight.

I thought HD would of put up more of a fight. I did too, but Sony was rapidly buying studio and retail support. It wasn't a fair fight, but that's business. There really was nothing Toshiba could do. I expected this from the very beginning. In fact, I believe my exact words were "Blu-Ray will win because it has the cooler name." And that's basically what happens, because Blu clearly isn't the superior format. A little more storage space (which would have been a non-issue once the triple layer HD-DVDs came out) does not make a format superior. Regardless of how much some of the people here -- who have obviously had a taste of the Sony Kool-Aid -- want to be believe it. Truth be told, I'm kinda glad it's gone. HD-DVD was better in almost every way imaginable for the consumers, but both formats are crap. I hope they both fail. I've decided to sit this format generation out. I'll be more than happy for many years to come with my HD VMD/upconverting DVD player, my standard DVDs, the small amount of HD VMDs that are on their way to my house and my HD projector.

saying "low def for life" is stupid.. if good movies are good movies why did we move from VHS to DVD?
Hopefully soon Blu ray players and DVD's drop in price, I'd rather see that than the format just die out like some people are hoping for just so they don't have to change formats again.

I just don't see blu-ray movies as too expensive. I bought Across the Universe new on blu for 24 dollars. On DVD it was 19. Same with We Own the Night. I never shop at Bestbuy since yes they are too expensive on most crap unless I have a coupon or some type of sale is going on.

I still watch stuff on VHS, mostly stuff I've taped off of MTV/VH1 in the late 80's early 90's but I still love my VCR damn it!

The high def format is most certainly going to be the "luxury" format. It's not brain teaser people, it's not going to take over for years, if at all. Like HD cable. It's the exact same thing as your normal cable, but it just looks steps better than your normal cable and you pay a little more for it. The high def video format is the same thing. Not until high def is the standard signal will there be a need to jump, but it's exists as strictly a luxury. You pay a little more for the movie to get a better looking version on your expensive TV.

Exactly, I think that quite a few people that own HDTV's will be willing to upgrade pretty soon if they have not already. I know that once I save up a little cash and get through the trip's I have planned for March I will be getting a PS3 and start buying all new stuff on Blu-Ray and upgrading certain movies when they eventually get released.
