Well, at least we all knew it was coming.
Glad I didn't invest in either format until the war had been officially declared over.
I'm getting a Blu-Ray player/burner on my laptop this summer for school, but it's just an added bonus, it wasn't something I was necessarily looking for.

Damn. I have about 50 HD DVD's and 2 players. What a waste of money.

Haha I'm glad I waited. But I'm still not ready to jump into the High def game. Not until I get a new tv anyway.

Good. 1 down, 1 to go. No if only people would wise up and realize that Blu-Ray isn't worth their money either.

Glad I just buy regular DVDs then. Low-Def FTW!

i'm totally happy with the regular dvd's. all this high definition stuff is too expensive for me to care about when i don't personally think the difference is all that great.

I'm sure no one else is going to agree with me, but going with HD VMD might be the best bet for those of us who are staying loyal to SDVDs. For around $200 you can get a very cool looking HD VMD player, which also upconverts SDVDs. $200 for a good upconverting DVD player isn't bad, plus you have the option of playing HD VMDs which retail for $18. Those are full 1080p HD movies that sell for just a few dollars more than a standard DVD. The format doesn't have a great US library yet, but neither did HD-DVD and Blu-Ray in the beginning. There are tons of great US major studio movies available abroad that can be easily imported since the format is region free. But even if HD VMD never takes off, it really won't be a loss because you've still got the upconverting DVD player for a fair price.

I'm sticking with DVD until it's obsolete. The picture's great on DVDs, and they're cheap as hell.

I'm sticking with DVD until it's obsolete. The picture's great on DVDs, and they're cheap as hell. I still more or less feel the same. I may pick up a couple Blu-Ray Disks just to try it out when I get my laptop, but I have no intention of rebuying all of my DVD's, or event spending the extra $10 to get a DVD I can only watch on my laptop.

I got an HD DVD player for Christmas. Glad I didn't buy it myself. I got totally beta maxed!! I only picked up one DVD for it though so it's not a big loss. I got Batman Begins for really cheap used. And the player came with King Kong. Regardless, it plays my standard DVD's much better than any DVD player I've ever owned. I won't get a Blu Ray player until they drop the price on movies. That's the main reason why I didn't buy any HD DVD's. 30 bucks is ridiculous. I still don't see standard DVD going anywhere anytime soon.

Glad my parents waited. They probably won't get any HD technologies until all the TV companies broadcast only in HD and HD TVs, DVDs, and HD tv companies are cheaper. We didn't get DVD players until 2004. We probobly won't get a DVD-R until all of the DVD-R machines are $100.
I just got a DVD player which plays DVD-R's last winter and had to beg for it. Luckily it also plays picture discs, CD-Rs, CDs, DVDs, and as previously said DVD-R's. If there is a difference between DVDRs and DVD-R's then it plays them also. same as CDR's wish it could record my Home Videos onto DVD's though. I also wish we had a new computer. Mine we got in 2002.
Anyone know if they make Blur Ray DVD-Recorders. There probably like $500 though.

i doubt hd dvds gonna die this fast. it just makes no sense for it to die within like 2 years or whatever. they still have a few big movies comming out for HD dvd, like i am legend so who knows.

I have HD DVD and Blu Ray...both worth the money. I'll still pick up a few HD DVDs when they hit the bargain bins. The thing with making a high def conversion is really up to the shopper. All I plan on buying on Blu are the big budget action/horror/films of the year/CGI heavy kinda stuff. I'm still buying standard for a majority of my collection such as tv shows, horror flicks, exploitation, etc.
Also, I never really bought a high def player in the first place. I got the HD DVD attachment for 360 as a X-mas gift and bought a Playstation 3 for Blu.
I think there's enough interest/loyalty to Blu Ray for it to be around for awhile, but if it's not I won't be heartbroken about it. The bottom line is, you buy movies you WANT to see in high def. I never understood the point of the war in the first place. I always see idiots in Best Buy arguing about it in the aisles...and the only way to shut them up was to say something cocky like "Why can't you stop being poor and own both?". I didn't mean it, but hey...it kept em quiet.

i doubt hd dvds gonna die this fast. it just makes no sense for it to die within like 2 years or whatever. they still have a few big movies comming out for HD dvd, like i am legend so who knows. It's already dead man. That what this thread is about. Toshiba was the main company behind HD-DVD and they will no longer make the movies or players come March. Universal and Paramount, the final two companies that were still supporting HD-DVD have already announced their plans to start releasing movies on Blu-Ray. Game over man, game over. Now we can start the death clock for Blu-Ray I never understood the point of the war in the first place. Corporate greed. Mostly on Sony's part. HD-DVD was the HD format that EVERYONE (all the movie studios and tech companies) agreed on. Sony went behind everyone's back and endorsed Blu-Ray. That's why most of the studios supported HD over BR at first, but Sony slowly bought them all off, as well as major retailers, such as WalMart and Best Buy. That's why HD-DVD is no more. I always see idiots in Best Buy arguing about it in the aisles...and the only way to shut them up was to say something cocky like "Why can't you stop being poor and own both?". I didn't mean it, but hey...it kept em quiet. That is ing hilarious

I can't wait to hear them start again when that VMD player comes out, which I'll probably also pick up since it's so cheap.
"UHHHH VMD WILL KEEEL BLU RAY!"
